FEBRUARY 19, 2009 On the Record Madison County 911 office releases figures for 2008 Comer man charged with aggravated assault A Comer man was arrested Saturday evening on aggra vated assault and other charges stemming from an incident that began Friday evening. Gilbert Bernard Saylors, 52, of 888 Clairmont Avenue, was also charged with obstruction of an officer and possession of firearms by a convicted felon. According to Comer police chief Brent Zellner, the inci dent began on Friday night when Saylors allegedly fired a shotgun at his son and missed. When Comer police arrived, Saylors reportedly took off into the woods. Comer police called for back up, which included sheriff’s deputies, Oglethorpe County officers and a canine offi cer from Elbert County, but Saylors was not located. Police were called Saturday evening to Clairmont Avenue, where Saylors was reportedly arguing with his mother and he was taken into custody at that time. While conducting a search of the home for the shotgun, Chief Zellner seized a large quantity of crack cocaine. The shotgun was not found. Saylors’ son, Gilbert Bernard Saylors Jr., 25, of 900 Clairmont Avenue, Comer, was charged Sunday evening on a hold for Clarke County. Zellner said charges are pending on the drug case, but no warrants had been issued as of press time. The Madison County 911 has released a tally of its calls for 2008: Sheriff’s Department The Madison County Sheriff’s Department responded to the fol lowing 911 calls: four rapes, five robberies, 46 aggravated assaults, 367 burglaries, 836 thefts, 150 auto thefts, six cases of arson, two motor vehicle accidents with fatali ties, 158 motor vehicle accidents with injuries, 746 motor vehicle accidents without injuries, 234 911 hangups, 945 burglary/rob bery alarms, 27 reports of child abuse/molestation, 544 reports of criminal damage to property, 26 deaths, 704 domestic disputes, 212 juvenile complaints, 617 reports of livestock on highway, 1,444 suspi cious persons or vehicles, 3,661 traffic stops and 9,202 micscel- laneous incidents. Danielsville Police Department The Danielsville Police Department responded to the fol lowing 911 calls: two aggravated assaults, nine burglaries, 26 thefts, one auto thefts, cases of arson, six motor vehicle accidents with inju ries, 56 motor vehicle accidents without injuries, two 911 hangups, 15 burglary/robbery alarms, 15 reports of criminal damage to property, four domestic disputes, 30 juvenile complaints, two reports of livestock on highway, 39 suspi cious persons or vehicles, 211 traf fic stops and 377 micscellaneous incidents. Comer Police Department The Comer Police Department responded to the following 911 calls: two rapes, two robberies, two aggravated assaults, 12 burglaries, 24 thefts, six auto thefts, five motor vehicle accidents with injuries, 28 motor vehicle accidents without injuries, eight 911 hangups, 28 bur glary/robbery alarms, one report of child abuse/molestation, 25 reports of criminal damage to property, one death, 32 domestic disputes, nine juvenile complaints, five reports of livestock on highway, 84 suspicious persons or vehicles, 618 traffic stops and 648 miscellaneous incidents. EMS Madison County Emergency Medical Services responded to the following 911 calls in 2008: 271 motor vehicle accidents, 60 reports of abdominal pain, 22 allergic reactions, 13 animal bites, 31 assaults, 83 reports of bleed ing or hemorrhaging, seven bums, 11 reports of cardiac/respiratory arrest, 334 reports of chest pain, 10 reports of choking, 13 deaths, 88 reports of diabetic complications, seven reports of exposure to ele ments, 218 falls, 87 fire standby, 19 fractures, 836 general sickness/ illness, 42 high/low blood pres sure reports, 47 medical alarms, 28 OB/GYN calls, 24 overdoses, 122 pain — unknown problems, 64 passed out, two poisonings, 49 public assist calls, 114 seizures, 265 calls of shortness of breath, 56 strokes, 42 suicides or threats of, 20 traumatic injuries and 54 unresponsive patients. FIRE Madison County's 11 volun teer fire departments received the following 911 calls: 198 motor vehicle accidents, nine controlled bums (out of control), five dump ster/trash fires, 91 fire alarms, 26 gas/fuel leak or fires, 169 grass/ wood fires, 17 illegal bums, seven severe weather details, 51 smoke or smell of smoke/buming materi al, 90 structure fires and 45 vehicle fires. RESCUE Madison County Rescue received the following 911 calls: •Rescue Unit 1 (Danielsville): 85 motor vehicle accident, six assist EMS and three lost person calls. •Rescue Unit 2 (Comer): 41 motor vehicle accidents, three assist EMS and two lost person calls. •Rescue Unit 3 (Ila): 45 motor vehicle accidents, two assist EMS, two lost person calls and one power/phone line down. •Rescue Unit 4 (Hull): 58 motor vehicle accidents and one assist EMS call. Paintball paraphernalia taken from Neese Commerce Road Several paint ball guns and other paint ball equipment were alleg edly taken from a paint ball field on Neese Commerce Road last week. The guns and equipment were valued at a total of $4,250. In another incident, aggravated assault was reported on Farm Road in Colbert last week, after deputies were summoned to a fight at a residence there. The victim told deputy Jeff Vaughn that he had been struck twice with a shovel, once on the hand (the deputy noted a small laceration on his right thumb) and once on his left hip. A warrant was issued for Keith Marcell Chapel, 44, 349 Farm Road, Colbert, regarding the incident. In a third incident, a small safe containing jewelry, cash and a small jewelry box, along with a blue Lego box containing multiple medica tions was reported stolen from a home on Mathis Road. The items were valued at $4,000. Other incidents on file at the sheriff’s office last week included: •Arson in the third degree was reported on Adams Road (off Booger Hill Road) after Ha Volunteer firelighters were called to the scene of wood fires in the area four separate times in one evening, according to fire chief Rudolph Nix. No structures were involved and no one was injured, Nix said. •Battery FVA (Family Violence Act) was reported on Hwy. 29 South Lot 24 near Colbert when a woman reported a dispute with her live-in boyfriend. According to the incident report, the woman reported that she and her boyfriend got into an argument over a phone call, which turned into a physical confrontation and resulted in her being hit over the head and scratched on her arm. •Battery FVA was reported on Blacks Creek Church Road when a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend had slapped her in the face and choked her. Deputy Rex Matthews did not notice any physical evidence or marks or scratches on the woman at the time of the report and medical treatment was refused. She was advised of the warrant process. •Battery FVA was reported on Old Elberton Road last week involving a male juvenile and his mother. Based on the investigation of Deputy Douglas Martin, the juvenile was arrested and charged with battery.
