February 26, 2009. ‘Wimp’ Lewallen BALDWIN - Wilford L. “Wimp” Lewallen, 72, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 at a private care facility. Mr. Lewallen was born on March 13,1936, in Anderson, S.C. to the late Freeman and Maime Pritchett Lewallen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Waymon Lewallen, and his sisters, Francine Dailey and Marie Pruitt. He was a mechanics graduate of North Georgia Technical Institute. Mr. Lewallen was Baptist and was a retired mechanic with 40 years of dedicated ser vice. Survivors include: his daughter and son-in- law, Denise and Jamie McWilliams, Baldwin; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Tracy Lewallen, Lula; sister and brother-in- law, Marilyn and Morris Stockton, Franklin, N.C.; grandchildren, Ron, and wife, Kathy Carey; Brandon Carey; Brooke Lewallen; Danielle Lewallen; Chastity, and husband, Cheyenne Chastain; and six great grandchildren. Katherine McClure COMMERCE - Katherine Maxine McClure, 41, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Athens Regional Medical Center. She was born June 13, 1967 to Grady Jones and Melba McClure Jones in Villa Rica. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia and served as a counselor in the Jackson County School system. She is survived by moth er, Melba McClure Jones of Commerce; and sisters, Jennifer Loden, Commerce, and Laura Lee, Gainesville. A native of Oconee County, he was the son of the late Grover and Sue Melton Moon. He was a retired investigator with Georgia Power and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winder. Mr. Moon was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Eugene Moon; and brothers, Preston and Donald Moon. Johnnie Newell BRASELTON - Johnnie Newell, 65, passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a sudden illness. Mrs. Newell was born November 25, 1943, in Hall County to the late John Glenn Turk and Etta Eoline Woody Turk of Braselton. She was a homemaker and a mem ber of Chestnut Mountain Baptist Church, but attended Chicopee Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Gene L. Newell, Braselton; son and daughter- in-law, Gary Glenn and Kim Newell, Braselton; grand son, Josh Newell, Braselton. Nadauna Whelchel Morgan CAMILLA - Nadauna Whelchel Morgan, 92, died Saturday, February 21, 2009, at her residence at the Camilla Retirement Village, following injuries received from a fall and an extended illness. Born April 20, 1917, in Cordele, she was the daugh ter of the late Ben T. and Nadine Wells Whelchel. She attended the Women’s College of Georgia in Milledgeville, and taught school in Rebecca for several years. She was active in the Love Sunday School Class and the Circle of the First Baptist Church of Camilla. She was an active member of the Pilot Club activities. Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Harris Morgan Sr. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harris and Linda Morgan, Camilla; daughters and sons-in-law, Nadine and Tom Crow, Jefferson, and Madge and Francis Bush, Midlothian, Va.; grandchildren and spouses, Joe Harris “Tripp” Morgan III and Mary Helen, Elizabeth Morgan and Patrick Millsaps, Brian and April Crow, and Jennifer Crow and Sam Moore Jr.; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Whelchel, Rochelle; sisters, Edna Whelchel Cannon, Rochelle, and Dot Whelchel Barineau, Atlanta. Barbara Oliver WINDER - Barbara Oliver, 69, died Thursday, February 19, 2009. Born in St. Louis, Miss., she was the daugh ter of the late Leslie and Elizabeth Ramsden. She was a member of the W.Y. Smith Sunday School Class at the Winder First United Methodist Church. A gradu ate of Decatur High School, Oglethorpe University, and the University of Georgia, she was retired from Barrow County Schools after over 30 years of service, after which she was a volunteer at Barrow Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Oliver was pre ceded in death by her hus band, Doug Oliver. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Major Kevin and Donna Oliver, Alexandria, Va., and Major Derek Oliver, Puyallup, Wash.; brother, the Rev. Born in Jackson County, he was the son of Willard and Willene Durham Osborn of Homer, was a truck driver for C & H Mechanical, and was a member of Friendly Mission Baptist Church. He was a veteran, having served in the United States National Guard. He was an avid race fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved ones added. Survivors in addition to his parents, include his wife, Myra Osborn, Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Kenny Pilcher, Cornelia; stepdaughter, Misty Norton, Mt. Airy; brother, Cecil Osborn, Homer; brothers and sis- ters-in-law, Roger and Susie Osborn and Anthony and Annissa Osborn, all of Homer; grandchildren, Dillan Osborn, Abby Pilcher, Nathan Pilcher and Kristen Pilcher; and several nieces and nephews. Survivors include three daughters; brother, Rodney Perry, Hull; and a sister, Janet Pless, Toccoa. Mrs. Pinkston was a retired spin ner for the cotton mill and a biscuit maker at LaFaye’s Restaurant. Born on March 8, 1913, in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Sanford M. and Era Fitts Carey. She was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church, the Happy Travelers Club, and the Young at Heart. Mrs. Sexton was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt Sexton; sis ters, Allie Dudley, Nita Ginn and Hester Sartain; brothers, Buford, Billy and Fayette Carey. Survivors include a broth er, Ford Carey, Danielsville; sisters, Ethel Sexton, Roberta Dove and Stuart Kirk, all of Danielsville, and Annie Mae Smith, Hull; a host of nieces and nephews; and served as second mother for a number of children in the Danielsville community. Floree Gunter Bgigl Wilkins, 79, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009, from injuries received in an auto mobile accident. Mr. Wilkins was born in Clarke County, the son of the late James Hugh and Claudie Lou Patton Wilkins. He was retired from R.L. Hawkins Construction Company, and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Hull Baptist Church. Mrs. Wilkins was born in Madison County, the daugh ter of the late David Wright Gunter Sr. and Ruby Wilhite Gunter. For a number of years she worked at Thomas Textile and later at Hodges BBQ. She was a member of Hull Baptist Church. Survivors include their daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and David Clark, Colbert, and Lisa and Derrick Neill, Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wilkins was also survived by sisters, Jenelle Melton, Colbert, and Wilma Massey, Crawford. Mr. Wilkins was survived by a sister, Lillian Lowe; and a brother, Nathan Wilkins. Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Wilkins were held Saturday, February 21, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Burial was in Winterville Cemetery.
