Rotary Club builds ramp for Grace Dorsey
Grace Dorsey has lived a long and interest
ing life.
She was bom 96 years ago, and has lived in
Madison County for over 75 years. At age 13
she went to work in a cotton mill filling the
batteries and weaving.
“Most of us don't even know what that
means,” a Rotary member said. “But it does
not have anything to do with batteries as we
know them.”
She later married and had six children. Her
husband died in 1959, leaving her with the chil
dren to raise by working at the cotton mill. She
has slowed down some now, and lives with one
of her daughters on McGinnis Chandler Road.
She has trouble getting around, and cannot
climb steps by herself. Her family contacted
Rotary and requested a ramp for her.
When the 21-foot ramp was completed, she
told the Rotarians, “I thank God for people
like you that give your time helping others,”
“Thank you very much.”
Grace still attends the Baptist Tabernacle
Church.

Georgia law
requires current
rabies vaccine
By Catherine Gilliam
Madison Co. 4-H coodinator
Did you know that it is
Georgia law that all your
pets must be current on their
rabies vaccine? And, Madison
County enforces this daily.
Having your pet current on
rabies is very important,
because it protects them and
yourself from contracting
rabies.
This disease is fatal to both
animals and humans, and it
all starts with just one bite
from an infected animal.
Madison County takes
rabies very seriously. There
were 11 positive cases last
year in Madison County of a
rabid animal coming into an
individual’s yard and putting
their pet at risk if not properly
vaccinated.
Any dog or cat, 12 weeks
of age or older, must have a
current rabies shot, in order to
be protected for themselves,
and avoid a fine for their
owner.
Therefore, Madison County
4-H is pleased to announce its
annual rabies clinic to be held
Saturday, March 14.
The 4-H"ers will team up
with Dr. Leslie Hart and Dr.
Allene Phillips, and travel
to various spots in Madison
County, ready to vaccinate
your dog or cat. This is a
great opportunity, to take
advantage of the convenience
of getting your pet vaccinated,
and at a reduced rate! So,
pick your spot, be prompt,
and have your previous year's
rabies certificate available,
if you want a three-year
rabies for your pet at this
time. Otherwise, a one-year
rabies vaccine is available for
everyone.

dency to have more clients than

to thank you for your patience
while you wait for us to arrive.”
