Aggravated assault reported on Hwy. 172
An aggravated assault was report
ed on Hwy. 172 near Comer last
week.
According to a report at the
Madison County Sheriff’s Office,
a man told deputies that he was fol
lowing his son on Hwy. 172 March
2, when a silver SUV approached
them and flagged them down.
When they exited their vehicles,
two white males, one who was
described as stocky, approximately
five foot ten inches tall and about
220 pounds with red hair and other
as thin, approximately six foot two
inches and 180 pounds, also exited
their vehicle and began cursing at
them.
The suspects then told them that
they “were not afraid of them and
that they needed to stop stalking
the girl they were following.” They
then began to fight with the vic
tims before getting back into their
vehicle and threatening to “kill
them,” before ramming their vehicle
into the passenger side door of the
father’s Dodge Ram, crushing the
door in. At that point, the suspects
left the scene, traveling toward
Colbert on Hwy. 172. The victims
stated they did not know who the
men were.
In another incident, officers went
to a residence on Fowler Freeman
Lane in reference to gun shots being
fired at a mobile home. A man there
told Deputy Jeff Vaughn that he
knew the offender and that when he
told the man to leave he went to his
car and removed a pistol and shot at
the trailer three times and that one
shot hit the end of the trailer, but did
not penetrate inside. Deputy Vaughn
noted a bullet hole in the residence.
There were four people inside the
trailer at the time.
The man was advised of the war
rant process.
In another incident, a warrant
was issued for the arrest of an Ila
man following a domestic dispute
involving a woman and a child at
a residence on Pine Street in Ila on
Feb. 26.
Joseph Roberts, 28,98 Pine Street,
is wanted for cruelty to children in
the first degree and simple battery
after he allegedly slapped a child
in the face and bit him on the arm.
According to the incident report.
Deputy James Reavis arrived at the
residence to find a woman sitting on
the side of the road holding a cry
ing child. The woman told Reavis
that her live-in boyfriend got upset
with their younger son after he bit
his older brother. He bit the younger
boy on the right arm after slapping
him in the mouth. The woman said
she told Roberts he was being too
aggressive with the younger boy
and that he then walked over to
her as she was leaving the room to
call the police and grabbed her arm
yelling and cursing at her in front
of the kids.
Deputy Reavis noted a bite mark
on the boy’s right arm and that
his mouth appeared to be slightly
swollen. He also observed a scratch
with a small amount of blood on the
woman’s right arm.

Crime and court policy
It is the policy of this newspaper to print the names of all
persons arrested and booked through the Madison County
Jail. No exceptions are made to that policy.
This newspaper also routinely publishes the names of those
involved in criminal court cases as those actions make their
way through the judicial system, including the final disposi
tion of the case when it is known.
We caution our readers, however, that an arrest is not a con
viction and an individual is presumed innocent under the law
until convicted of a crime for which he has been charged.
In addition to arrest reports, we also routinely publish items
from incident reports filed with local law enforcement agen
cies. Most of the time, the names of those involved are not
published unless one party has been officially charged with
a crime.
