Each student brought in 100 items to use in different activities throughout the day. The students measured and sorted the different items. They also created art projects using 100 but tons. News MCHS ENSEMBLE VISITS PRE-K The MCHS Select Ensemble recently visited Tamara Appling’s pre-K class at Danielsville Elementary School. Its director, Shirley Dillard, said, “We have never had a more attentive or appreciative audience!” According to the children, each song performed was “the best song they had ever heard.” ‘MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH March is Music in our Schools Month; all over the nation people are celebrating the importance of music programs in our schools. “Please contact Garland Ryder at Ba or Danielsville Elementary to ask about how you can support our local music programs,” teachers said. Pictured, students from Kelli Skelton’s and LeAnne Kidd’s first grade classes celebrated by showing what they know using popsicle sticks to compose simple rhythms in their music class. Students composed rhythms in small groups and then went around and performed other groups’ rhythms. Freshman Academy FFA Student Spotlight: Jesse Griffith Jess Griffith is currently a stu dent at the Madison County High School Freshman Academy. He was enrolled during the first semester in the Basic Agricultural Education class offered at the Freshman Academy. Through the class students complete the three parts of the total Agriculture Education Program, which includes: FFA, SAE (Supervised Agriculture Experience) and class room/lab. Griffith had a very diverse SAE which included engine repair, lawn care maintenance and beef cattle production. Griffith was also an active member in the classroom where he participated in every unit including leadership, communica tion, plant science, wiring, welding, of a plant woodworking, forestry science, flo riculture and much, much more, all while meeting Georgia Performance Standards. Griffith, however, has been the most involved with the FFA aspect of the Total Agriculture Program. He has competed in several CDEs (Career Development Events) this year. At the Area II level, Griffith has com peted in CDEs such as farm business management and livestock judging. On the state level, he has competed in meats evaluation and will be traveling to compete in poultry judging. Coming up at the end of the month, Griffith will travel with the Madison County Freshman Academy FFA Chapter to the Greenhand Jamboree presented by the State FFA officer, where he will learn more leadership, communication and team work skills. Griffith says he would like to be an agricultural ecologist and work with the USDA when he grows up. “I would also like to grow my own chickens,” he said. Griffith is a member of the Freshman Academy FFA Chapter where he also attends FFA meetings, and local FFA socials. Jesse was also chosen as the January FFA student spotlight for the Channel 32 News out of Toccoa. Jesse Griffith is pictured in basic Agriculture Class learn ing about xylem and phloem School notes Kindergarten registration dates announced Registration for kindergarten students for the 2009-2010 school year will take place on Thursday, March 19, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Friday, March 20, from 8 a.m.^1 p.m. All children who will be five years old by Sept. 1, 2009, should be registered at this time, school officials said. Parents should bring their child and the following documentation to the registration: the child's Social Security number, birth certificate, immunization record and proof of residency in the school district where they are being registered. MCHS class of ‘99 hosting reunion Aug. 8 The MCHS Class of ’99 will hold its 10-year reunion, Saturday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m at Camp Kiwanis in Danielsville. Tickets are $35 per person.
