April ‘Open Mic Nite’ back in Comer The comedy show, “It Was Open Mic Nite At Ye Olde Rustic Inn," returns to Comer's Saving Grace Cafe April 3-4 at 8 p.m. Carlton's Stephanie Astalos-Jones, who’s appeared in movies and ntelevision during her career, and Lisa Mende, who had a reoccurring role on Seinfeld, perform the show. “The Schmeckles, Cora Lee and Carlene and all your faves will be joined by two new comedy acts,” organizers say. “Snacks and sodas will be available for purchase and feel free to BYOB.” Tickets are $15 at the door. Second Annual “Ride to Survive” set for April 11 Harmony House Child Advocacy Center presents the second annual “Ride to Survive,” on Saturday, April 11, at the Danielsville City Hall (rain or shine). There will be a free Holman Autry Band concert with bike check-in/ registration at 9 a.m. The ride starts at 10 a.m. Registration fees are: $10 per bike, $5 per passenger (fee includes lunch). The ride starts in Madison County (Danielsville) and goes through Franklin, Hart and Elbert counties then back to Danielsville City Hall. Raffle prizes, food and t-shirts will also be available, organizers said. All proceeds will be used for advocacy and related items in the operation of Harmony House, a non-profit agency that assists child and adult victims of sexual assault, according to organizers. Located in Royston, the agency provides assistance to residents of Madison, Franklin, Hart, Elbert and Oglethorpe counties. Call Debi at 706-247-3848 for more information. Master Gardeners to hold plant sale April 18 The Madison County Master Gardeners Association (MCMGA) will hold its spring plant sale from 9 am to noon April 18 at the Madison County Extension Office on Sunset Drive in Danielsville. “There will be assorted perennials, annuals, vegetable plants, including heirloom tomatoes and houseplants all available at reasonable prices,” organizers said. “In addition to plants, MCMGA is also selling tickets for a beautiful wooden arbor, built and donated by craftsman Ron Leuthner.” Tickets are $5 each or three for $12. Carlton Junction Function set for April 25 The annual Carlton Junction Function is set for Saturday, April 25, from 10 am. to 3 p.m. at the big field on Hwy. 72 near the Carlton Post Office. There will be crafts and food vendors, musicians, kid-friendly activities, and “more barbecue booths than any other town fair can boast,” organizers said. May Colbert Canna Pageant set for May 9 Spring is in the air and that means it is time for the annual Colbert Canna Pageant, organizers said. This year’s pageant is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at the Colbert auditorium. LOVE Wyatt, Love to marry April 4 June Armistead and Barry Wyatt, Monticello, announce the engagement and forth coming marriage of their daughter Cammie Suzanne Wyatt, to Jeremy Paul Love, son of Pattie Love and Marty Love, Jefferson. Miss Wyatt is a 2005 gradu ate of Madison County High School and attends Athens Technical College, pursuing a degree in social work. PILOT CLUB PRESENTS PUPPET SHOW TO KINDERGARTENERS For many years, the Pilot Club of Madison County has presented a “brainminder” puppet show to the kindergarten classes of Madison County. The hand puppets teach the children the importance of wearing their helmets and playing safely to protect their brains. Now, Pilot Club International has written a script for seniors. Instead of using hand puppets, club members made costumes so that there could be a human “Gerald Giraffe,” “Toolip Pig,” “Fiona Fox,” “Penny Panda” and “Martin Monkey.” On March 11, the puppets pre sented a program to the folks and staff of Highland Hills Independent Living and Personal Care Center.
