WINDER - Frances Pierce
Barr, 80, died Wednesday,
April 15, 2009.
Born in Barrow County,
she was the daughter of the
late Welton and Leila Jones,
and was retired from R &
R Manufacturing Company.
Mrs. Barr was preceded in
death by a grandson, Clint
Emmett.
Survivors include daugh
ters and son-in-law, Dottie
Emmett, Winder, Dinah and
Wayne Bell, Statham; sons
and daughters-in-law, Eddie
and Betty Pierce, Gainesville,
and Ricky and Janice Pierce,
Winder; 10 grandchildren;
and 9 great-grandchildren,
with three great-grandchildren
on the way.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, April 18, at Smith
Memory Chapel with the Rev.
Bill Hayes officiating. Burial
was in Barrow Memorial
Gardens.

Loyd Baskins
CANON - Henry Loyd
Baskins, 90, died Friday, April
17, 2009, at his residence.
Born in Franklin County
on June 13, 1918, he was
the son of the
late Lester and
Ida Bennett
Baskins. He
was a contrac
tor in the construction indus
try, drove a school bus for 15
years for the Franklin County
School System, and was a
member of the Canon United
Methodist Church, where he
served as an usher for many
years. He was a veteran, hav
ing served in the United States
Army as a combat engineer
during World War II, and he
was a member of the Harrison
McCreary V.F.W. Post #4828.
Mr. Baskins was preceded
in death by brothers, Troy,
Leonard, J.C., Ellis and Ralph
Baskins; and a sister, Nellie
Outz.
Survivors include his wife,
Willie Bell Baskins, Canon;
sons and daughters-in-law,
Henry Wesley and Connie
Baskins and Loyd Ferrell
Baskins and Lisa Brown,

Joseph “Bill” Brittle Jr., 59,
died Tuesday, April 21, 2009,
at his residence, following an
extended illness.
Born on July 1, 1949. in
Greenville, S.C., he was the
son of William Brittle and
stepmother, Barbara Brittle
of Gainesville, and the late
Sara Rosenbaum Brittle. He
was employed by Wilheit
Packaging for 14 years
and was a member of Lula
Worship Canter. Mr. Brittle
was preceded in death by
brothers, Charles Brittle and
Richard Brittle.

where she participated in
various activities such as
cheerleading and basketball,
and was also a race fan. She
enjoyed spending time with
friends and her family, and
living life to the fullest, loved
ones stated. She was preced
ed in death by grandparents,
the Rev. Luther Campbell
and Edith Campbell, James
Richard Mann; and great-
grandparents, Arling and
Fannie Arrowood.

was a member of Crooked
Creek Baptist Church.

He was a member of Colbert
Baptist Church. He was a
very caring, giving and gener
ous person, and loved fishing,
loved ones stated.

Richard Lee Cool, 54, died
Thursday, April 16, 2009, at
his residence.
He was the son of Keith
and Phyllis Cool of Ripley,
W. Va. He spent a portion
of his childhood in Jackson
County, some of his child
hood in Ripley, W. Va., and
was a 1972 graduate of Ripley
High School. He spent over 20
years in Casper, Wyo., work
ing in the oil and gas industry
and with the Wyoming Oil &
Gas Commission before retir
ing to Charleston, S.C. Mr.
Cool was preceded in death
by a brother, Doug Cool.
Survivors in addition to
his parents include his wife,
Marlene O’Leary; and a son,
Richard, Princeton, N.J.

Friday, April 17.

A native and longtime resi
dent of Madison County, she
was the daughter of the late
Isaiah and Pearlie Bridges
Hulsey. She was the oldest
living member of Friendship
Baptist Church and was an
active member for over 70
years. Mrs. Drake was pre
ceded in death by her hus
band, George W. Drake; and a
granddaughter, Becky Drake.

Church. Mr. Gurley was pre
ceded in death by his wife,

County, Ala., making his
home in Milledgeville for
most of his life, he was the
son of the late Homer and
Mary Etta Stubbs James. He
was retired from YDC as food
service director. Mr. James
was preceded in death by his
wife, Nell James; and sib
lings, Mary Lindgren, Homer
James and Odrien James.
