MAY 28. 2009 Church News •Colbert First Baptist Church will kick off its Vacation Bible School activities with a Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 30 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the church grounds and in their family life center in down town Colbert. A free event for the com munity, all are invited to enjoy face painting, food and games, inflatables, pony rides and a dunking booth featuring Colbert First Baptist pastor Brad Wilson, youth minister Blake Wilson and Madison County Sheriff Kip Thomas, organizers said. Children ages three through fifth grade will also have the oppor tunity to sign up for VBS during this time. “Family Fun Day is an invita tion for new families to come experience our church,” Pastor Wilson said. “We’re a very fam ily-oriented fellowship and this event allows us to truly reach out to the community and make them feel welcome.” This year’s VBS theme is “Holy Moses and the Temple of God.” VBS will run Sunday, May 31, through Wednesday, June 3, from 6-8 p.m. each eve ning. There will be a Bible story time, crafts, recreational activi ties and refreshments, organiz ers said. Colbert First Baptist is located on 65 South Street in downtown Colbert. Zion Baptist Church, Ila, will have Vacation Bible School from Sunday, June 7 - Thursday, June 11, beginning at 6 p.m. each evening. The Randy Merrill Family Evangelistic team will head up the VBS with “Catastrophe Kitchen” and is looking for young “chefs” ages 3-17 to come cook with them. The theme this year is SonRock Kids Camp. VBS campers will build bonds of friendship with each other and with caring counsel ors as they discover that then- true identities are not formed by where they go, what they can do or what others think. They will explore who they are in Jesus Christ — the most important relationship of all, organizers said. “Please join us for lots of fun, food, and games.” Adult Bible School will also be held during this time.
