Adam Hams, a paramedic with Madison County EMS, received the annual John Steed EMT of the Year Award for the Northeast Health District (Region 10) during the annual EMS Awards Banquet at the Oconee Civic Center May 18. The speaker for the 18 th annual EMS Awards Banquet was Mark Richt, head football coach for the University of Georgia, who spoke about the importance of teamwork in EMS and having everyone work together as a system to make a difference. The annual banquet was held during National EMS Week, May 17-23, as EMS personnel nation wide are honored and recognized for their achievements throughout the year. The John Steed EMT of the Year Award, named in honor of Barrow County paramedic John Steed who was killed at the age of 30 while responding to an ambulance call, recognizes an exceptional EMT or paramedic in the region for achievements in promoting and representing the EMS profession. 60™ WEDDING ANNIVERSARY The Rev. Henry David Shelton and Geneva Mae Wynn Shelton will cel ebrate their 60 th anniver sary Sunday. The Madison County couple has four children, five grandchil dren and 10 great-grand children. The couple has been in the ministry since 1966. Area notes Angel Food announces June menu Angel Food Ministries has announced its menu items for June. Special 1 - The seven-pound assorted meat grill box is $23 and includes: New York Strip steaks, thick-cut Boston Butt chops, baby back ribs and Bratwurst with cheese. Special 2 - The 4.5-pound meat and chicken combo box is $22 and includes: Bone-in Ribeye steaks, sirloin strip steaks and bacon- wrapped chicken breasts. Special 3 - The 11-pound chicken combo box is $22 and includes: Perdue whole bird, split chicken breasts, breaded tenders and boneless/skinless chicken breasts. Athens Little Playhouse auditioning for ‘Brigadoon’ Athens Little Playhouse will hold auditions for Brigadoon on Monday, June 15 - Wednesday, June 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Appointments are not necessary, organizers said. Auditions will be held at the ALPs Theater located in the Alps Village Shopping Center between the I Do, I Do Bridal Salon and Moe’s Southwest Grill. This audition is open to ages 10 to 80. “Be prepared to do a cold reading from the script,” organizers said. Auditioners will be required to learn a short dance routine to demonstrate abilities and/or potential in that area. Also be prepared to sing a short song with sheet music for the accompanist to play. “We will need a lot of chorus singers and dancers for this show,” organizers said. “Bass and baritone singers will be needed as well as strong tenors and sopranos." This play is about two American hunters, Tommy and Jeff, who become lost in the Highlands of Scotland. They come upon a village that is not listed on their maps. They enter hoping to get directions back to the lodge and during the course of one whole day, become involved with a wedding, a death, and learn the mysterious secret of Brigadoon. Directors are Teresa Ruiz and Lynn Halverson. Long-time Madison County resident Gloria Sams will produce the show and urges Madison County (and the surrounding counties) singers from the school choruses and church choirs to come and audition. Production dates are August 28-30 at the historic Seney-Stovall Chapel in Athens. Auditions are free, but fees are involved for those cast.
