Soccer camp is
June 15-19 at rec dept.
The Madison County
Recreation Department is offer
ing a summer soccer camp June
15-19 from 9 a.m. to noon at the
recreation department for chil
dren ages 7-12.
Camp participants need to wear
cleats, shin guards and shorts.
Campers may bring their own
soccer ball but are not required.

Madison County High School
where he also coached soccer for
four years. Harrison was a 4-year
letterman at MCHS and has also
played in adult leagues. Campers
learn fundamentals such as drib
bling, passing, shooting and trap
ping the ball through “fun and
challenging” games, according
to organizers.
Players at any level from
beginner to advanced are wel
come. Camp activities include
skills competitions, scrimmages
and wild water day.

Softball hitting camp
ahead at MCHS in
June
Madison County High School
will offer a hitting camp for play
ers ages 7-13 June 19 from 9 a.m.
to 3 p.m. The camp focuses on
bunting, hitting techniques and
fundamentals.
The cost of the camp is $30.
“Enrollment will be limited
to assure quality instruction in
small groups and individually,”
organizers said.
Camp will be held at the high
school softball field. Registration
forms are available at the Madison
County Recreation Department

Diamond Hill complex conces
sion stand.

MCYA cheerleading
camp set for June 13
Madison County Youth
Association (MCYA) cheerlead
ing camp is June 13 at Hull-
Sanford Elementary School from
8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for ages
4-14.
The cost is $15, which includes
lunch and a T-shirt. Payment is
accepted at the door. For more

Rec dept, offers
July tennis camp
The Madison County Recreation
Department is offering tennis
camp for 6-to-12-year-olds July
6-10 from 9 a.m. to noon at the
recreation department.
The camp is open to players
of all skill levels. The fee is $45,
which includes a camp T-shirt.
Participants must bring a tennis
racquet.
Christina Fortson, Danielsville,
instructs the camp. She has played
USTA league tennis for seven
years on many county teams.
Campers learn fundamentals —
such as serving, ground strokes,
volleying and returns — through
“fun and challenging” games,
according to organizers.

Coed softball
league offered
The Madison County Recreation
Department will again offer an open
coed softball league, with enough
slots for eight teams. Games will
be played at Haggard Park on Hwy.
98W on Monday and Thursday
nights beginning July 13.
The fee is $425 per team, with
out-of-county teams charged an
additional $75 per team. The dead
line for all entries is June 26 at noon.
The first eight teams to turn in entry
fees and rosters are guaranteed a
spot.

Rec dept, soccer
registration
starts Aug. 3
Madison County youth soccer
registration starts Monday, Aug. 3.
Signups run Monday through
Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in
the meeting room of Haggard Park
located at 1345 Highway 98 West.
Extended hours are Thursday,
Aug. 13, and Friday, Aug. 14, run
ning from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
An additional signup date is
Saturday, Aug. 15, with hours from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The soccer leagues are coed and
as follows:
•Pee-Wee League, ages 5 and 6.
•Midget League, ages 7 and 8.
•Intermediate League, ages 9 and
10.
•Major League, ages 11-13.
•Senior League, ages 14-16. This
league requires 48 participants reg
istered to be offered.
The age control date is Sept. 1,
2009. All players must turn 5 by
this date and no player can turn 17
before this date. A birth certificate is
required for all youth program reg
istration. The registration fee is $25
per child, with an additional $25 fee
for any out-of-county participants.

Madison Co. Cruisers
schedule continues
The Madison County Cruisers —
a local automobile organization —
continues its schedules with shows
on June 20, July 18, Aug. 15, Sept.
19 and Oct. 17.
The October date is a special
cmise-in, organizers note. Shows are
at Danielsville City Park, running
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “All makes
and models are welcome — rat rods,
finished and unfinished,” organizers
said. "As long as it has wheels and
an engine, it’s invited. We want to
see it all.”
The registration fee for all shows

MCHS softball alumni
game ahead Aug. 8
The Madison County High School
softball program hosts its third bi
annual alumni softball game Aug.
8 at 4 p.m.
Any girl who played fast-pitch
softball her senior year is invited to
participate at no cost.
There is no admission charge.
Family members and friends are
invited to attend.

“We can go 10 deep this year
with no considerable drop off on
defense,” he said.

Even if it's just the summer,
this appears to be a team already
believing. Lampe recalls a recent
conversation with his seniors.
"They said, ‘I didn’t think we’d
be as good as we are this early,”’
he said. “So they’re feeling really
good about the squad coming up.”

scrimmaged three times last week
before hitting the road for a three-
day stay at Auburn's basketball
camp.
The Lady Raiders will finish
the summer slate at the end of the
month.

winners based on the Standards
of Selection set forth by the
Academy. The criteria for selec
tion are a student’s academic per
formance, interest and aptitude,
leadership qualities, responsibil
ity, enthusiasm, motivation to
learn and improve, citizenship,
attitude and cooperative spirit and
dependability.

plans reunion
The Madison County High
School Class of 1959 reunion is
planning its 50-year reunion on
Aug. 29. Detailed information
will be sent out soon, organizers
said.

class of ‘99
reunion is Aug. 8
The MCHS Class of ’99 will
hold its 10-year reunion Saturday,
Aug. 8, at 6 p.m at Camp Kiwanis
in Danielsville. Tickets are $35
per person.

County schools switching
to centralized registration
Parents won’t be able to register or enroll children at any of the school
campus offices after June 18.
Centralized registration starts July 20 at the Madison County Board of
Education Office at 800 Madison Street in Danielsville.
The central office is closed from June 19 to July 19.
Anything related to registration will be conducted at the central office,
including enrollment or re-enrollment of a child, submitting a change of
address or transferring a child from one elementary school in the system
to another.
Registration requires the following documents:
•a completed enrollment form.
•proof of residence (choose one of four: utility bill with service address
and landline telephone number; lease or purchase agreement for property
in Madison County; proof of homeowners’ insurance; or a notarized
residence affidavit).
•current photo ID of registering parent/guardian.
•birth certificate.
•social security card.
•permission waiver for social security number use.
•current immunization record (Georgia Form 3231).
•custody papers if applicable.
•authorization to release records (faxed to previous school).
•migrant form.
•student language form.
•free/reduced lunch application.
•network user agreement.
These additional items are required for students grades 6-12.
•withdrawal from previous school.
•previous school transcripts or report cards.
•previous discipline transcripts or report cards.
A kindergarten questionnaire is required for kindergarten registration.
“These documents are required, and you will not be allowed to register
without them," school system leaders say.
Forms for enrollment, permission for use of social security numbers,
authorization to release records, migrants, student language, free and
reduced lunch applications, network user agreements and kindergarten
questionnaire can be accessed at www.madison.kl2.ga.us after June 1.
Central office registration hours from July 20 to Aug. 14 are 8:30 a.m.
to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Hours are extended to 7 p.m. on July
28, Aug. 4 and Aug. 6. Early morning registration, starting at 7:30 a.m., is
available Aug. 6-7 and Aug. 10.
