School News THE MADISON COUNTY (GA) JOURNAL. THURSDAY. JUNE 11.2009 — PAGE 3B FRESHMEN FFA MEMBERS ATTEND BANQUET The Madison County Freshman Academy FFA Chapter recently attended the Area II Banquet at the Jefferson Civic Center in Jackson County. Students from the area were recognized for their work during the year. Every FFA mem ber or FFA team that placed first or second on the area level received a plaque. Jessie Wade, one of Madison County’s Freshman Academy FFA members and chapter treasurer, received an award for his second place treasurer’s book. The Freshman Academy was also awarded for turning in the most can tabs in Area IPs “Pop the Top” can tab chal lenge. The Freshman Academy, with the help of the other Madison county chapters, turned in 166 pounds of can tabs that were donated to the Ronald McDonald House. PATTON TOPS IN VET SCIENCE Shelly Patton was recognized as the top FFA student in vet science center at the Georgia FFA convention in April. Patton’s proficiency application will go on to compete on the National level in October. Pictured are Trisha Lastly, Patton and the vet science proficiency sponsor. NEW FRESHMAN ACAD. CHAPTER RECOGNIZED New chapters from all over the state were rec ognized on stage at the state FFA convention with a Chapter Charter for charter members to sign. Madison County had two new chapters, one from the Freshman Academy and one from the middle school. Pictured are Trisha Lastly and Freshman Academy chapter president Alex McLaughlin. ROBERTS TAKES FIRST IN STATE DISCUSSION MEET Brianna Roberts took home top honors in the state in Georgia’s Top Discussion Meet at the state FFA convention in April. She went through two rounds of discussion with other FFA members. Roberts was recognized on stage and received over $100 for her achievement. Jared Wozny Central Region State Vice President hands Roberts her first-place plaque.
