MCHS alumni baseball
game is Saturday
A June 27 “old-timers” alumni
game is open to all former Madison
County High School baseball
players who played their senior
year.
Organizers hope to generate
enough interest for two games, one
starting at 4 p.m. and another at
7 p.m.
A homerun derby and radar
gun contest is scheduled between
games.
The cost for players to participate
is $50.Fan admission is free. All
proceeds go toward baseball facility
improvements.

Rec dept, offers
July tennis camp
The Madison County Recreation
Department is offering tennis camp
for 6-12-year-olds July 6-10 from
9 a.m. to noon at the recreation
department.
The camp is open to players of all
skill levels. The fee is $45, which
includes a camp T-shirt. Participants
must bring a tennis racquet.
Christina Fortson, Danielsville,
instructs the camp. She has played
USTA league tennis for seven years
on many county teams.
Campers learn fundamentals —
such as serving, ground strokes,
volleying and returns — through
“fun and challenging” games,
according to organizers.

MCHS softball alumni
game ahead Aug. 8
The Madison County High
School softball program hosts its
third biannual alumni softball game
Aug. 8 at 4 p.m.
Any girl who played fast-pitch
softball her senior year is invited to
participate at no cost.
There is no admission charge.
Family members and friends are
invited to attend.

Coed softball
league offered
The Madison County Recreation
Department will again offer an open
coed softball league, with enough
slots for eight teams. Games will
be played at Haggard Park on Hwy.
98W on Monday and Thursday
nights beginning July 13.
The fee is $425 per team, with
out-of-county teams charged an
additional $75 per team. The dead
line for all entries is June 26 at
noon. The first eight teams to turn
in entry fees and rosters are guaran
teed a spot.

Rec dept, soccer
registration starts Aug. 3
Madison County youth soccer
registration starts Monday, Aug. 3.
Signups run Monday through
Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in
the meeting room of Haggard Park
located at 1345 Highway 98 West.
Extended hours are Thursday,
Aug. 13, and Friday, Aug. 14, run
ning from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. An
additional signup date is Saturday,
Aug. 15, with hours from 10 a.m.
to 1 p.m.
The soccer leagues are coed and
as follows:
•Pee-Wee League, ages 5 and 6.
•Midget League, ages 7 and 8.
•Intermediate League, ages 9 and
10.
•Major League, ages 11-13.
•Senior League, ages 14-16. This
league requires 48 participants reg
istered to be offered.
The age control date is Sept. 1,
2009. All players must turn 5 by
this date and no player can turn 17
before this date. A birth certificate is
required for all youth program reg
istration. The registration fee is $25
per child, with an additional $25 fee
for any out-of-county participants.

Madison Co. Cruisers
schedule continues
The Madison County Cmisers
— a local automobile organization
— continues its schedule with
shows on July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19
and Oct. 17.
The October date is a special
cruise-in, organizers note. Shows
are at Danielsville City Park, run
ning from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “All
makes and models are welcome
— rat rods, finished and unfin
ished,” organizers said. “As long
as it has wheels and an engine, it's
invited. We want to see it all." The
registration fee for all shows is $5.

softball camp July 6-9
Prince Avenue Christian School
is hosting its youth softball camp
for rising first through sixth grade
girls July 6-9 from 9 a.m. to 12:30
p.m.

ers Charvi Greer and Sojourner
Moody direct the camp. The camp
fee is $110 and includes a camp
t-shirt and a daily snack and drink.
The camp provides training in the
fundamentals of the game “in a
manner that is safe, organized and
fun,” organizers say. The camp day
includes small group instruction
and contests. The camp registra

Bass Masters Club
seeking new members
The Madison County Bass
Masters Club, the only federated
Bass Masters organization in the
county, is seeking new members.
The group meets the last Thursday
of each month at the Madison
County Government Complex
and fishes the first Saturday of the
month.
The group welcomes those want
ing to learn how to fish or fish
competitively.
Members of the club fish as indi
viduals, and the top fishermen from
the organization have the opportu
nity to compete against members of
other federated Bass Master clubs
in the state.

SUMMER SOCCER CAMPERS
The Madison County Recreation Department held its soccer camp June 15-19. David
Harrison, Travis Moak, Lee Reno and Kyle Cooper instructed the camp. This year’s partici
pants learned the fundamentals of dribbling, passing and shooting. “All the kids seemed to
enjoy doing headers and water day,” organizers said. The 2009 campers were Seth Cash,
Avery Chandler, Samuel Colley, Hayden Echols, Grade Epps, Bethany Fortson, Bailey
Frady, Ryan Greene, Jaxon Hoetzel, Camden Jordan, Megan Karles, Jasmine Means, Brady
Nicholson, Callie Ollis, Isaac Parham, Gerad Pearson, Cason Pope, Sarah Kate Thomas,
Dillon Turner, Hayleigh Turner and Laura Whitley.Those wanting their child to attend next
year’s camp can contact the recreation department at 706-795-6270 to receive 2010 soccer
camp information.

The camp starts July 6 and will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
at the main park on Hwy. 98.
Additional camps will be held at the same time during the
weeks of July 13 and July 20.
“To achieve the maximum benefits of this camp, participants
should attend all three weeks,” organizers said.
The cost per week is $50 per participant.
