ATHENS CHUSTIAN SCHOOL ciu.m»ni Strong storm downs trees, claims horse’s life A powerful storm rolled through Madison County last Wednesday evening, knocking down trees and powerlines, sparking fires and kill ing one family’s beloved horse. Ron Dickson of Fred Goss Road reported that lightning hit several trees on his property and killed his family’s 8-year-old quarter horse, Goldie. “If you’ve ever come down Fred Goss Road you have seen Goldie,” wrote Dickson in an email to The Journal. “She spent a year in Florida being trained for our granddaughter and was destined to give and get a lot of love. I miss her golden color, white main and stockings. I will miss scratching her neck, something she always wanted ... My special thanks to the Madison County main tenance crew who came to bury her. She rests beside the tree she sought protection under.” Madison County 911 director Goldie David Camp reported the following calls related to the storm. TREES DOWN: N. Fourth Street in Colbert, Spratlin Mill Road, area of 3296 Hwy 106 S., Crawford W. Fong Street, Charlie Bolton Road, Rogers Mill Road, Jot em Down Road, Moons Grove Church Road, Johnson Bridges Road, Hwy. 29 N near Manley Martin Road and Sherwood Drive. TRANSFORMER FIRES: •Near Amoco Station north of Danielsville (knocked out power from Huddle House south into Danielsville.) •47 Laurel Avenue •Paoli Road near Hwy 72E POWER LINES DOWN: •Van Manley Road •3880 Hwy 29S OTHER DAMAGE The wind blew a well house roof off at 351 Bond Road. The roof struck the resident’s car and house causing minor damage to both. Lightning struck a house at 909 Rogers Church Road causing a fire inside a wall. It was quickly extin guished by responding fire depart ments.
