Sci-Fi Table Talkers take ‘quantum leap’ Last Saturday’s Comer Farmers’ Market was an enter taining paradox. Outside on the lawn was a slow Southern drawl with a produce haul. Inside was atom-splitting fun as Table Talk took a quantum leap under the red and white roof. Squeals of glee burst forth from delighted shoppers who bounced between the tables like heated molecules. A mysterious fruck-vendor appeared to be thrust out with a sonic boom at his last sale of com. Who was that guy? An increasing stream of market- goers ended the day with a big bang. New to the season's current harvest included Savannah and Rattlesnake pole beans, Black Beauty eggplant, cowhom pep pers, green and red tomatoes, red and yellow cherry tomatoes, Santa Rosa and medley plums, peaches, cantaloupe (Plato’s favorite), watermelon, sage, dill, oregano and Italian parsley. The sale of okra hit me with it’s after- math: You mean there was okra?! Many sold out: few remained. Prepared items were artisan bread, cakes, pastries, cookies, salad dressing, luscious lemon ade, preserves, spice mbs and locally-milled grits and commeal. New this season: wild blackberry jam and biscotti. Many items rolled out in a vortex of shopping bags. Among non-food items were jewelry, heirloom quality hand made gifts, fine art, handcrafted cleansing and beauty products and the Wolf Creek’s ever popu lar, all natural pesticide alterna tive. The CFM welcomes Susan Russel, of Gatherings Garden in Athens. Bursting forth on the scene with a palette-o'-plenty, she displayed heirloom bulbs, trans plants, fresh-cut flowers, herbs and gourd birdhouses. Encore, please. Hear ye, hear ye! The CFM will be open in full swing from 8 a.m. to noon on July 4. Before participating in the Colbert fes tivities, beat the heat and stock up early on homegrown goodness. Saturday, July 11, is the must- see summer grand opening of the CFM. To celebrate the event, the CFM will raffle an irresistible basket full of vendor contribu- A DRAKE 1 GAS CO. FARMERS’ FEEDBACK Calvin and Meashell Cosson, Comer residents and area busi ness owners, made a pit stop with a flat bed trailer full of peaches and tomatoes. These enterprising busy bees could run circles around warp speed. When Calvin’s not running three granite trucks, he’s hauling dirt, sand or gravel in a dump truck. When Meashell is not running the home fires of Whistle Stop Grill in Elberton, she tends the home front and two middle school aged children. A woman of Christian faith, Meashell revealed, “Just two years ago I was homeless. Here’s what one homeschooling mother said about ACS: “After homeschooling for 4 years, my three oldest children began attending ACS. I definitely feel like ACS was a good and safe second step for my children’s education. They all adjusted wonderfully. The teachers made sure that my children had a smooth transition. ACS is a blessing to my entire family. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted with how much my children liked school at Athens Christian School.” If the Lord is leading you to take a different direction with your child’s education, ACS would be honored to serve you.
