RAMP BUILT FOR RICHARD AND CAROLYN HAYS
The Rotary Club of Madison County built a 36-foot handicapped ramp for Richard and Carolyn Hays, who live on
McCannon-Morris Road in Colbert. The Rotary Club constructed it last Tuesday as part of its community service pro
gram. Funds for the ramp program come from donations, grants and fund-raisers. Carolyn, 72, has suffered six heart
attacks, which have required several by-pass operations and confined her to a wheelchair. Carolyn, who worked for
Woolworth and Bi-Lo in Athens, has lived in Madison County for the past 30 years. She and Richard have raised three
children in Madison County. Her father was a stonemason, who worked on the carving of Stone Mountain. Workers
on the ramp included Bob Anderson, Jim Jeffer, Ed Brown, Jerry Bond, Jack Chandler, Roy Gandy, Erwin Hardeman,
Pat Quinn, Artry Bishop and Harlan Lovelace.
