Diamond Club Hitting
camp is Saturday
The Diamond Club Sports
Academy will sponsor a hitting
camp on Saturday, July 18, from
9 a.m.-3 p.m„ which will include
a video analysis and breakdown
by Jon Armitage, (San Francisco
Giants and UGA baseball) and
Justin Holmes (Cleveland
Indians, UGA coach and UGA
team captain). The cost is $35
for younger players and $50 for

MCYA cheerleading
camp ahead July
20-21, 23
The Madison County Youth
Association (MCYA) will host a
three-night camp July 20-21,23 at
the Madison County Recreation
Department for ages 4-14.
The cost is $15. A light snack
will be served each night. For

Rec dept, offering
sports conditioning
camps this month
The Madison County Recreation
Department will offer its final
sports conditioning and speed
development camp date for ages
7-and-up on July 20.
The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 10
a.m. at the main park on Hwy. 98.
“Participants of all ages will per
form better in any sport they play
after participating in this camp,”
organizers said.
The camp is based on improv
ing one’s core strength and sprint
fundamentals. The instructor is
Aaron James, a former University
of Georgia track coach, who is
the speed development coach
at Athens Christian School. His
coaching experience includes
work with national champions,
All-Americans and Olympic med
alists — including gold medal
ists Sheryl Swoopes (basketball),
and Michael Johnson and Shawn
Crawford (track).
The cost is $50 per participant.
Registration is at the rec dept.,
Monday through Friday, between
9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

registration
starts Aug. 3
Madison County youth soccer
registration starts Monday, Aug. 3.
Signups run Monday through
Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the
meeting room of Haggard Park
located at 1345 Highway 98 West.
Extended hours are Thursday,
Aug. 13, and Friday, Aug. 14, run
ning from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. An
additional signup date is Saturday,
Aug. 15, with hours from 10 a.m.
to 1 p.m.
The soccer leagues are coed and
as follows:
•Pee-Wee League, ages 5 and 6.
•Midget League, ages 7 and 8.
•Intermediate League, ages 9
and 10.
•Major League, ages 11-13.
•Senior League, ages 14-16.
This league requires 48 partici
pants registered to be offered.
The age control date is Sept. 1,
2009. All players must turn 5 by
this date and no player can turn 17
before this date. A birth certificate
is required for all youth program
registration. The registration fee is
$25 per child, with an additional
$25 fee for any out-of-county par
ticipants.

MCHS softball alumni
game ahead Aug. 8
The Madison County High
School softball program hosts
its third biannual alumni softball
game Aug. 8 at 4 p.m.
Any girl who played fast-pitch
softball her senior year is invited
to participate at no cost.
There is no admission charge.
Family members and friends are
invited to attend.

Madison Co. Cruisers
schedule continues
The Madison County Cruisers
— a local automobile organization
— continues its schedule with
shows on July 18, Aug. 15, Sept.
19 and Oct. 17.
The October date is a special
cruise-in, organizers note. Shows
are at Danielsville City Park, run
ning from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. “All
makes and models are welcome
— rat rods, finished and unfin
ished,” organizers said. "As long
as it has wheels and an engine, it’s
invited. We want to see it all.” The
registration fee for all shows is $5.

Bass Masters Club
seeking new members
The Madison County Bass
Masters Club, the only federated
Bass Masters organization in the
county, is seeking new members.
The group meets the last
Thursday of each month at the
Madison County Government
Complex and fishes the first
Saturday of the month.
The group welcomes those
wanting to learn how to fish or fish
competitively.
Members of the club fish as
individuals, and the top fishermen
from the organization have the
opportunity to compete against
members of other federated Bass
Master clubs in the state.

REC DEPT. HOLDS FIRST TENNIS CAMP
The Madison County Recreation Department recently concluded its first tennis camp.
Christina Fortson instructed the clinic, assisted by Colby Phillips and Erica Fortson.
This year’s participants learned the fundamentals of tennis including serving, volleying,
ground-strokes and returns. A water day was also part of the camp. This year’s campers
were AbbyAlewine, Kristen Alford, Caroline Barrett, Brady Bates, Ben Bray, Karis Brown,
Clay Christian, Dyson Christian, McKenna Coile, Cason Collier, Chase Craig, Kennedy
Culbertson, Ella Czaplinski, Hayley Daniels, Karissa Embry, Mark Epps, Walker Johnson,
Lexi Jordan, Luke Perdue, Sam Perdue, Storey Reynard, Thomas Stephenson, Emma
Strickland, Adrianna Watson and Sammy Williamson.Those wanting their child to attend
next year’s camp can contact the recreation department at 706-795-6270 for an information
packet. Those also interested in tennis lessons can call the recreation department about
fall lessons.

to keep my head in line with one game at a
time,” Pridgen said. “I don’t want to get too
spread out.”
But those really wanting to thing big and look
ahead, the Little League softball World Series is
in Portland, Ore. Aug. 13-19.
Should Madison County somehow get that far,
its players would miss a week of school.
“That’s what keeping them driving,” Pridgen
joked. “Every time I see them getting a lazy, I’m
like, 'y’all want to got to school the first week
of school don’t you?'”

Dr. Chittineni was educated
at Ghandi Medical College,
with post-graduate training
at Winthrop University
Hospital, where she worked
both as a nephrology
research assistant and
clinical instructor. She has
completed important
research into acute kidney failure
(Chittineni et al. American J Nephrology,
2007) and is board-certified in Internal
Medicine.
