The Madison County Goat
show team traveled July 11 to
the Banks County Agriculture
Center in Homer for one of
the first goat shows of the
show season.
There were 125 goats in
attendance to compete for
champion goat. Four of those
students were 4-H and FFA
members from Madison
County. Each exhibitor
started in showmanship. The
showmanship competition
is judged on the exhibitor's
ability to show their goats
to the judge and answer
questions on their projects.
Showmanship is divided by
age and grade level.
Six year old Lily Crane
started the day in showman
ship from Madison County
4-H. Crane placed second in
her showmanship class out
of more than 10 exhibitors.
After showmanship each stu
dent competed in their goat's
weight class. Shyanne Bruce,
a sixth grade FFA member
at Madison County Middle
School, placed second in her
weight class out of 13 exhibi
tors, and this was her first
time showing. She also got to
be a part of the championship
drive. Crane placed third in
the same weight class.
Garrett Whitworth, a
sophomore FFA member
at Madison County High
School, placed fourth with
his project in a class of more
than 12 goats. Levi Simmons
and Lily Crane were in a
weight class together and
placed sixth and seventh with
their projects.

MCHS wrestling team attends ASU wrestling camp
The Madison County Little League 11-12-year-old softball all stars were scheduled
to face Harris County Wednesday evening, with the winner facing Warner Robins
Thursday.

the ball” Tuesday, but hit it right
at Robins fielders. The squad
tallied eight hits on the evening
and stranded seven base run
ners. Madison County scored
its lone run on the night when
Ivie Drake tripled and was driv
en in by a Cheyenne Pridgen
single. Alexis Damron took the
mound for Madison County,
farming five in five innings.
The girls, who blasted Harris
County 8-0 in the opening
round Sunday, were scheduled
to face Harris County again
Wednesday evening, with the
winner matching up against
Warner Robins at 8 p.m.
Thursday. Results of that game
were not available as of press
time.
If Madison County or Harris
County manages to down
Warner Robins Thursday,
they’ll have to turn around and
do it again Friday, since Robins
has yet to lose in the double
elimination tournament.
Pridgen said he felt confident
his team could defeat Harris
County, adding that Warner
Robins is a great team, but not
unbeatable.
“It (the Tuesday loss) was a
growing experience for them,”
said Pridgen. “It might make
them buckle down.”
Pridgen said the team has had
a great time on the road trip.
“Oh, they’ve had a blast,” he
said. “They’re swimming in the
pool, running around the hotel
room, you know, just goofing
off and acting like a bunch of
12 year old girls.”
But the squad has put the
relaxing and vacation atmo
sphere aside when it comes
time for business, putting in a
couple of hours of practice a
day. Pridgen said the team is
not distracted from the task at
hand.
“These girls want it bad,” he
said.
