Born in Barrow County, he was the son of the late Jeffie C. and Hattie M. Shaw Akins. He was retired after 46 years from Barrow Manufacturing Company and was a member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Nell Akins, Statham; sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Vicky Akins, Statham, Jeff and Gail Akins, Auburn, and Marty and Dawn Akins, Winder; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd Akins, Statham; and sisters, Ola Bell Chandler and Dorothy Ferguson, both of Winder. Mrs. Cary was preceded in death by her husband, the late Ammie C. Cary; son-in-law, Dave Parker; four brothers; and five sisters. Born on October 28, 1967, in Hall County, he was the son of the late Bill Ewing and Glenda Perry Ewing Owens. He was employed at Applied Industry in sales and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army in Egypt and Jordan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, son and friend, loved ones stated. He was a man who served his country with a great deal of passion and honor and is loved very much and will be missed dearly. Born in Forsyth County, he was the son of the late Osmar and Mae Terry Green. He worked as a sheet metal worker and was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union and the Tucker Lodge. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II and was recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Survivors include his wife, Monteen Garmon Green, Maysville; daughter, Teresa Cain, Maysville; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Connie Green, Monroe; grandchildren, Tracy Dicara and Kelly Cain; great-grand children, Michael Hammett, Danielle Mundy and Dalton Dicara; great-great-grand- children, Waylon Hammett and Hayden Hammett; sis ters, Harriette Cabe and Genia Green. Hoyt Clifford Ivester, 89, formerly of the New Holland Community in Gainesville, died Monday, July 27, 2009, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following a brief illness. Born in Toccoa on December 26, 1919, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Bell Massey Ivester. He made the mill village of New Holland his home most of his life. As father, grand father, pastor and friend, he touched the lives of every one he came in contact with. Rev. Ivester was preceded in death by his lovely wife of over 60 years, Ruby Wilson Ivester; brothers, Cortez, Pete, Paul and Buck Ivester; and a sister, Illone Ramey. In April, 1943, he and four of his brothers went into the military and fought in World War II. Following basic training in Macon, at Camp Wheeler, he was sent overseas to Rome, Sicily and Casablanca, Italy. He served and fought honor ably in Company E, 135th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division, being awarded the Purple Heart among other awards. He returned to New Holland following World War II and worked at New Holland Mill for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. Aside from work ing full-time in the mill, he was also a Southern Baptist Minister. He was the pas tor of numerous churches in the North Georgia area to include Chattahoochee Baptist in Flowery Branch, Fairview Missionary Baptist Church in Gainesville, Grove Level in Maysville, and Pendergrass Baptist Church, in Pendergrass. He was ordained as a minister September, 1954, at Pleasant Union Baptist Church, New Holland, Gainesville. Survivors include a daugh ter, Jeanne Riley, Jefferson; grandchildren, David Bruce, Todd Riley, Leah Smith, Hannah Brookshire and Timothy Riley; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Will Ivester; and sister, Jewel Martin. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 30, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. He worked at Wayne Farms as a mechan ic and was a member of The Lighthouse Church in Maysville. Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Kristina Hughie Jackson, Lula; a son, Joshua James Jackson, Lula; daughters, Victoria Jessica Jackson, Monika Elaine Jackson, and Virginia Hallie Jackson, all of Lula; brother and sis ter-in-law, Joel and Janice Jackson, Gainesville; sis ters and brothers-in-law, Teresa and Albert Martin, Knoxville, Tenn., and Ruby Dean and Roosevelt Wallace, Gainesville, Mary Ellen Jackson and Karen Vanessa Jackson; father-in- law, Joseph Hail Hughie; very special nephews, Joel Blake Jackson and Kareem Moore; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ladd was preceded in death by husbands, Carl Simmons and Sylva Ladd; a daughter, Carol Franks; granddaughter, Kourtney Dill; sister, Illar Stover; and brother, Donald Fowler. Survivors include a daugh ter and son-in-law, Cleda and Donald Mote, Commerce; son, Carl L.
