Gibson shut out the Red Devils

unearned runs in the sixth with
the help of some Raider defensive

“We helped them out in the sixth

out of it,” Kesler said.
Offensively, Sam LaZear went

“A lot of it (practice) ain’t
fun, but the games are prob

fun than any

it’s always fun to

And the coach
has noticed a
change in tenor
in practice as the
Franklin County

“You see a different edge

Gibson — who pitched the last
three and two-thirds innings —

“We played pretty good,” Kesler
said. “We had some girls hit the
ball, which was a positive thing to
take from it.”
Both Bolin and Peeples enjoyed
3-for-4 days at the plate. Peeples,
Madison County’s leadoff hitter,
reached base four times in the
victory.

Owens said. “Coaches get

“Confidence is such a big thing,”

The Raiders and Lions have
met 32 times on the gridiron in
real football games, so playing
a longtime rival adds a little
energy to an otherwise mean
ingless encounter.
But that energy doesn’t mean
exploring the playbook.
After all, Madison County’s
real first opponent, Rockdale
County, is watching.
“You’re trying to evaluate,
but you don’t want to give

The new coach isn’t quite sure
how her first Madison County
team will stack up against the rest
of Region 8-AAAA, but feels
very confident in the Raider team
taking the floor this fall.
“I am extremely optimistic
about this group of girls," Delay
said. “It’s the best group I’ve seen
in my three seasons at MCHS.”
That group includes five
returning players from last year’s

inside of Russell while coming out of four. This
time, however, Haley pushed his car to the very
limits trying to pass the no. 32. Russell in-turn
stretched out his motor as he and Haley crossed the
finish line nose-to-nose.
The finish was so tight, officials had to refer to
