78, died Monday, August 24,
2009.
A native of Madison County,
she was the daughter of the late
Thomas A. and Clara Fannie
Spratlin Burroughs.
She was retired from the
textile industry as an inspector
and a member of Hull Baptist
Church. Ms. Burroughs was
preceded in death by broth
ers, Leroy Burroughs, Harry
Burroughs and Spurgeon
Burroughs; and sisters, Rebecca
Burroughs, Sara Burroughs
and Sue Sughrue.
Survivors include a sister,
Irene Strickland, Colbert;
nephews, Arnal Strickland,
Denver Strickland, Mike
Burroughs, Phil Burroughs,

held at 11 a.m. Friday, August
28, at Evergreen Memorial
Park with the Rev. Ray Jenkins
officiating. Nephews, Arnal

Mike Burroughs, Phil
Burroughs, Pete Burroughs, Ed
Sughrue and Jim Sughrue will
serve as pallbearers. Honorary
pallbearers will be the Frierson

Claudine Cooper, 82, died
Saturday, August 22, 2009, at
her residence.
Bom in Jackson County,
she was the daughter of the
late George Newton and Leila
Belle Parker. She was a mem
ber of Apple Valley Baptist
Church and was employed as a
dietician with Athens Technical
College. Mrs. Cooper was pre
ceded in death by her husband,
John Hoyt Cooper.
Survivors include a son,
Randolph Cooper, Powder
Springs; daughters. Sherry
Diane Cox, Aiken, S.C.,
Linda Miller, Commerce,
and Elizabeth Gale Waldrop,
Jefferson; sisters, Mary Davis,

Franklin Daniel, 75, died
Tuesday, August 18, 2009.
Born in Fulton County, he
was the son of the late Andrew
Jackson and Ellen Patterson
Daniel. He was a retired
Aeronautical Engineer and a
member of Mt. Paran Church
of God in Marietta. Mr. Daniel
was preceded in death by his
wife, Marilyn Juanita Johnson
Daniel.
Survivors include a daughter,
Renee Page, Pendergrass; son,
Ronald Daniel, Douglasville;
sisters, Lou Ellen Smith,
Stockbridge, and Bonnie
Harold, Woodstock; brother,
John Daniel, Gordenville,
Texas; grandchildren, Michael

Elizabeth Eberhardt
COMER - Elizabeth
Barrow Eberhardt, 102, died
peacefully Monday, August
17, 2009, after a wonderful
and faithful life.
Born on December 14,
1906, in Stellaville, Jefferson
County, she was the second
of five children. She grew up
in several communities around
Jefferson County before leav
ing home in 1920 to attend
the Georgia State College for
Women. She graduated from
G.S.C.W. in 1924 with an edu
cation degree.
After college, she taught
school for one year in the state
of Florida before coming to
Danielsville as a grammar
teacher. In 1935, she married
Robert T. Eberhardt Jr., of
Comer, and moved to Comer.
Their only son. Bob Eberhardt,
was born to her the follow
ing year. She and her hus
band, Robert, lived a grand 57
years together until his death
in 1992."
For several years, she served
as a middle school gram
mar teacher at the Comer
Elementary School, where she
touched the lives of many stu
dents who still speak fondly
of their time with her. She is
especially remembered for her
soft, yet dignified manner.
During her lifetime, Mrs.
Eberhardt was dedicated to
and loved her family dearly.
She lived by the motto of “God
and family first.” She was one
of the Lord’s special servants
and served countless organiza
tions, including memberships
at and with the First Baptist
Church of Comer, the Liza
Graham Sunday School Class,
the Comer Women's Club, and
the Garden Club of Athens.
Survivors include a son.

grandchildren, Eric Eberhardt,
Watkinsville, and Mark
Eberhardt, Winder; grand
daughter-in-law, Deena
Eberhardt, Watkinsville

Galloway
MAYSVILLE - William
Henry Galloway, 47, died
Saturday, August 22, 2009, at
his residence.
Born in Jackson County,
he was the son of Mary Ann
Carlan Galloway of Homer
and the late William Avery
Galloway. He was a member of
Grove Level Baptist Church,
was in the tree service business,
and was also Banks County
Coroner. Mr. Galloway was
preceded in death by a grand
son, Steven Jesse Chapman.

to his mother, include his
wife, Janet Marie Johnson
Galloway, Maysville; sons,
Steve Chapman and Robert
Chapman, both of Maysville;
sisters, Joyce Turpin and

New Mexico, he was the
son of Melvin Hill of Perry,
Mich., and the late Gloria Gail
Brown Hill. He was employed
with Salloum Construction
Company for over 14 years
and was an active member
of Friendship Presbyterian
Church. He also was a frequent
participant in Relay for Life
activities.

Palmer Morris died Tuesday,

She was the daughter of the
late George A. and Annie Wade
Palmer. She was retired from
Westclox and was a member of
Colbert Baptist Church. Mrs.
Morris was preceded in death
by her husband of 56 years,
Hobson G. Morris; two sisters;
and six brothers.

Wayne Newberry, 20, died
Thursday, August 20, 2009.
Born in Covington on May
12, 1989, he was the son of
Terry Wayne Newberry and
mother and stepfather, Sharon
Ann and Timothy Shawn Lewis.
He was a member of Brockton
Road Baptist Church. He was
a major with the East Jackson
Comprehensive High School
ROTC for the school years
2004-2008, and was a junior
fire fighter with the Harrisburg
Fire Department 2003-2004.
Mr. Newberry was preceded
in death by grandparents, Paul
Daniel Newberry Sr. and Betty
Robertson.
Survivors in addition to his

Nicole Newberry; stepsister,

Hazel Dean Bradley Parks, 86,
one of the last female veterans
of World War II in Jackson
County, died Thursday, August
20, 2009.
Mrs. Parks wasaUnitedStates
Navy veteran, having served
in the WAVES at Pensacola,
Fla., as an aviation machinist
mate. She
was honor
ably dis
charged in
1945 with
the rank
of Third
Class Petty
Officer.
Her hus
band, A.G.
“Buster”
Parks Jr., was serving in the
United States Army at the
time.
She was born on August
20, 1923, in Central, S.C., the
daughter of the late J.P. Bradley,
Lessie Carroll and Clint Boone.
Mrs. Parks attended Commerce
Elementary School and gradu
ated from Maysville High
School and Perry Business
School, Gainesville. She
was a long-time correspon
dent for The Jackson Herald,
worked as a seamstress, a U.S.
Census taker and spent most
of her years as a homemak
er. Mrs. Parks was a member
of the Holly Springs United
Methodist Church and her
hobbies included quilting with
her friends at church, flower
gardening, bird watching, sew
ing, and reading.
She was preceded in death
by her husband of 60 years;
a sister, Bonnie Ferguson;
and grandson, James Arthur
Patrick.
Survivors include daughters
and sons-in-law, Guy Dean
and Jimmy Benson, Jefferson,
Andrea and Mark Tjepkema,
Meta and Steve Hages, and
Celestine and Donald Vaughn,
all of Pendergrass, Paula and

Richey. He worked for many
years for the Commerce
Poultry Company and was a
cattle farmer. He was a mem
ber, former deacon and former
teacher of the Men's Sunday
School Class at Cabin Creek
Baptist Church. Mr. Richey
was preceded in death by a
sister, Norma Shirley; and
brother. Gene Richey.

Farmer Jordan White, 45, died

at her residence.
Born in Brevard County,
Fla., on April 17, 1964, she
was the daughter of Robert
and Barbara Johnson Farmer,
both of Nicholson. She was a
paramedical examiner and a
member of the Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church in Bowman.
She was also involved with
the Precept Ministries at the
Beechhaven Baptist Church in
Athens.
Survivors in addition to her

sons, Casey Jordan and Tyler
White, both of Carnesville;
brothers, John Robert Farmer,
Maysville, and David K.
