Child Safety Seat Check
Day set for Sept. 19
The Madison County Pilot Club is sponsoring
a Child Safety Seat Check Day on Saturday
Sept. 19, in the Ingles parking lot on Hwy 29
in Hull from 10 a.m. to noon. This event is
being conducted by Randall Townley of the
Northeast Georgia Rural Road Initiative and
certified checkers from the area, according to the
press release.
All seats which are deemed to be unsafe will
be replaced, the release stated. Child, vehicle and
parent or caregiver must be present for the fitting
of the seat or booster seats.
According to reports, (American Academy
of Pediatrics, Georgia Highway Safety and
National Highway Transportation and Safety
Administration) motor vehicle crashes are the
leading cause of death for children from the ages
of 2 to 14 and a high percentage of these deaths
could be prevented with the proper use of car
seats and seat belts. Rural Georgia has the lowest
use rates in the state and among the lowest in the
country, according to officials. In addition, it is
estimated that four out of five seats are incorrectly
installed and that many others which have been
recalled are still in use.
Account set up
for Henry Jones
An account has been set up at Merchants
and Farms Bank to help cover the medical bills
of Henry Jones, former chief of the Collins
Volunteer Fire Department, who is suffering from
cancer. “He gave the Collins Fire Department 22
years and was a foster parent of about 20 kids in
the county,” friends said. “He helped all he could
when he could. Now it is time to give back.”
Donations can be made to the William Henry
Jones account at Merchants & Farmers Bank. For
more information, call 706-340-5865.

first customers. Sue Stone’s can

morning sunshine as if to say,
