State patrol
investigates
12 crashes
during Aug.
Troopers from the Athens
Post of the Georgia State Patrol
reportedly investigated 12 traf
fic crashes during the month of
August in Madison County. The
crashes resulted in eight injuries
and no traffic deaths, according
to a press release.
Trooper issued 64 traffic cita
tions in the county during the
month, including five arrests for
DUI, 17 citations for speeding,
17 seat belt violations and one
child restraint violation.
Troopers also issued 51 warn
ings to motorists.
Crime and
court policy
It is the policy of this news
paper to print the names of all
persons arrested and booked
through the Madison County
Jail. No exceptions are made to
that policy.
This newspaper also routine
ly publishes the names of those
involved in criminal court cases
as those actions make their way
through the judicial system,
including the final disposition
of the case when it is known.
We caution our readers, how
ever, that an arrest is not a
conviction and an individual is
presumed innocent under the
law until convicted of a crime
for which he has been charged.
In addition to arrest reports,
we also routinely publish items
from incident reports filed with
local law enforcement agen
cies. Most of the time, the
names of those involved are not
published unless one party has
been officially charged with a
crime.
