SCOTT ELECTED TO STATE
4-H BOARD OF DIRECTORS
John Scott, son of Steve and Beth Brown and the late
Richard Scott, was recently elected as a state representa
tive for the Georgia 4-H Board of Directors. During the 67 th
Annual Georgia Congress, he received his official State
4-H green jacket and was installed as an officer. As a state
representative, Scott will represent Georgia 4-H at state
and national events and working with state and county
officials to increase awareness of 4-H activities. He will be
responsible for planning and conducting 4-H events and
meeting with prospective donors to finance various proj
ects. He has already met with the State Commissioner on
Agriculture, Tommy Irvin, and Gov. Sonny Perdue.

The Madison County beef
show team gathered Aug. 29
to sharpen their grooming and
showmanship skills for the
upcoming show season.
Some of the beef show mem
bers have been showing for sev
eral years, while this marks the
first show season for others. The
clinic was hosted by Jeff and
Teresa Hilbum and organized
by their daughter Stephanie
Hilburn, Madison County
Freshman Academy FFA mem
ber.
The clinic began at 8 a.m.
with a few rounds of practice
showmanship. Brain Lance and
May Bea Martin from Goffery’s
Feed assisted the students,
answering showmanship ques
tions when asked by the judge
and proper hoof and leg place
ment in showing their animals.
They then helped the students
with clipping and grooming of
their animals. Every student got
a chance to clip on a cow pro
vided by Stephanie Hilbum. The
clinic ended with a lunch with
the instructors. The FFA mem
bers attending the clinic includ
ed MCHS FFA members Natia
Sabonia and Morgan Tolbert
and Madison County Freshman
Academy FFA members Nate
Sertain, Brock Compton, Tyler
Arnold and Stephanie Hilbum.
