Continuance granted
in Moon trial
A continuance was granted Monday in the trial of Jason Moon,
who is accused of killing Edouardo Monrico Barnett in 2007.
Moon’s defense attorney Jim Smith pushed to move the case out of
Madison County. But district attorney Bob Lavender said the judge
ruled in favor of the prosecution, which favored keeping the trial in
the county. And the defense will appeal that ruling.
Barnett's body was found along Bellew Drake Road Jan. 5, 2007.
Investigators believe Moon lured Barnett to the area with the promise
of drugs, then shot and killed him.
Another trial is being held this week in the case of Christian
Oliverio, who is facing a homicide by vehicle charge for the Oct.
31, 2006, death of his wife. Summer Shenk Oliverio, 22, Hull. The
accident occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 29 and Clark Circle.
Oliverio was also charged with driving under the influence and failure
to yield.

Crime and court policy
It is the policy of this newspaper to print the names
of all persons arrested and booked through the
Madison County Jail. No exceptions are made to that
policy.
This newspaper also routinely publishes the names
of those involved in criminal court cases as those
actions make their way through the judicial system,
including the final disposition of the case when it is
known.
We caution our readers, however, that an arrest is
not a conviction and an individual is presumed inno
cent under the law until convicted of a crime for which
he has been charged.
In addition to arrest reports, we also routinely pub
lish items from incident reports filed with local law
enforcement agencies. Most of the time, the names
of those involved are not published unless one party
has been officially charged with a crime.
