OCTOBER 1, 2009 — PAGE 9A Church News ‘Prayer Request’ mailbox offered A new “Community Prayer Requests” mailbox is now available at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church. Anyone in the community with a prayer concern may write a note and place it in the box, which is located beside the visitors’ parking in the lot nearest Highway 29. Requests may be made anonymously or persons may sign their names, but either way, all requests will be kept confidential. “All requests will be honored, whether large or small because God cares even about the hairs on our heads,” church leaders said. Persons leaving prayer requests may exit back onto Hwy 29 or onto Jones Chapel Shiloh Road. •The Danielsville Gospel Barn will host a gospel sing ing Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. Featured singers will be The Southern Travelers, of Carlton, and the Gospelaires, of Comer. Services will start at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Calvin Coile will be the speaker with special sing ing by Hayley Kennedy. There will be a fellowship meal to follow. Everyone is welcome to come and worship and fel lowship, church leaders said. •David’s Home Church will host homecoming ser vices Sunday, Oct. 4, with Rev. Larry Phillips bringing the 10:45 a.m. message. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall following the morning ser vice. At 1:30 p.m., “Exception to the Rule” (Ray Family) will be singing. Revival will be held on Monday through Wednesday nights, Oct. 5-7, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Ty Sorrow preaching Monday night, Rev. Jason Phillips Tuesday Night, and Rev. Scott McQueen Wednesday night. Church members say they would especially like to invite family members of those buried in the church cemetery, but all are invited to share this special service. Ice and tea will be provided by the church for the midday meal. Hannah’s Creek Church is located on Hannah’s Creek Church Road off Wildcat Bridge Road in northern Madison County. On Saturday, Oct. 3, new flowers will be placed on graves that don’t have family members to perform this service, church leaders said. For more infor mation, call 706-246-5456 or 706-245-8801. •Colbert United Methodist Church, located behind First Madison Bank, will have a yard sale Oct. 3 from 8 a.m.-l p.m. in front of the church’s Family Life Center. “We will have some of our popular Bazaar items as well - flavor ing, knives, cards, etc.,” church leaders said. The church youth will be selling hot dogs and other goodies. “Mark your calendar and come find some great deals,” church leaders said. In case of rain, the sale will be rescheduled for Oct. 10. Church members are also working on a church cook book, which will contain a history of the church and some information about the city of Colbert. The cookbook will include a DVD of pictures of Colbert, as well as present and past members. The cookbook will be on sale in October. For more information call Brenda at 706-546-0371. •Colbert First Baptist Church will host a “grief share” program beginning Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. The program will last for 13 weeks, according to organizers, and will be held in the church's family life center, located behind the church. These ses sions, which include a work book and a DVD presentation, are designed to help individu als through the grief process God's way, organizers said. “If this does not fit your work schedule, please call to see if another time can be worked out,” organizers added. Rich has been featured in many newspapers as well as dozens of television shows as a master storyteller. “Please come join Ronda at Colbert First Baptist Church as she tells you stories of happiness and heartaches, friends and family, and a faith that's strong enough to handle anything that life throws your way,” church leaders said. The cost is $20, which includes food, fun and fellowship, church leaders said. The menu will be catfish filet, hush pup pies, French fries and slaw. For those who wish to dine in, plates will be available, organizers said. Iced tea or cokes will be available as well. Adult trays are $8; adult plates and drink are $8.50 and children under 12, $4 for tray or plate. Zion Church will have its fourth-annual women’s conference Monday, Oct. 26, beginning at 7 p.m. The fea tured speaker will be Karen Peck Gooch. Church leaders say register early since seat ing is limited. Pre-registration is $10 per person, or $15 at the door. There is one free registration for groups of 10 or more, church leaders said and each registrant will receive a gift bag. There will be draw ings for various door prizes (you must be present to win).
