Julian Bowman WINDER - C. Julian Bowman, 84, died Thursday, October 1, 2009, fol lowing a brief illness. A native of Barrow County, he was a mem ber of the First Baptist Church of Winder, and was a veteran of the United States Marines during World War II. He retired from American Freight in 1985 and then pursued dealing in real estate. He loved his fam ily, friends, gardening, the out doors, and his outreach program at church. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Marie Bowman; chil dren, Brenda Shepherd, Decatur, Dianne Turner and husband Ronald, Buford, Mike Bowman, Tucker; grandchildren, Susan McKinnon, Deanna Teel and Sherron Shaw; great-grandchil dren, Michael McKinnon, Julia Bernier, and Gordy Teel. (476) ‘G.B.’ Freeman DANIELSVILLE George B. “G.B.” Freeman, Jr., 85, died Sunday, October 4, 2009. Born December 27, 1923, in Madison County, he was the son of the late George B. and Annie Ginn Freeman. Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by broth ers, Lee, Frank, Clinton and S.B. Freeman; and sisters, Nellie Hitchcock, Grace Gordon and Dorothy Escoe. He was a mem ber of Bluestone Baptist Church in Danielsville, and was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church for many years where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was retired from farming and as cus todian of the U.S. Post Office. Survivors include sisters, Gladys Rowland, Anderson, S.C. and Callie McLeskey, Hartwell; several nieces and nephews; and two special nieces who helped care for him, Mary Smith, Comer, and Barbara Pulliam, Royston. (081) Bob Howe HOSCHTON - Bob Howe, 79, died Saturday, October 3, 2009. He was the son of the late Ray and Dorothy Hollowell Howe. Reared in Mobile, Ala., he was a former resident of DeKalb County and had resided in Hoschton for the past 11 years. Mr. Howe served in the United States Army from July 2, 1949 to April 4, 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the 187 th Regimental Airborne Combat Team. He was deco rated with four Battle Stars, an Arrowhead, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachute Wings, Korean War Ribbon, U. N. Ribbon and Japanese Occupation Ribbon. Mr. Howe was a member of the V. F. W. and American Legion. He was a former president of Midway Little League in DeKalb County and coached little league baseball and football and also had played minor league base ball. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Gavin Howe, Hoschton; daughter, Jennifer Howe Henriott, of St. Augustine, Fla.; son. Redd Vincent Howe, Jefferson; and grandchildren, Corry Redd Howe, Ryan Brandon Howe, Mark Grover Henriott, Jr., Alexandra Howe Henriott, Megan Carter and Will Carter. Born in Stephens County, she was the daughter of the late Harrison Grover and Mary Fowler Fitzgerald. She was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church and was a retired seamstress. Mrs. Kesler was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Phillip Kesler. Andrew “Andy” Travis Montgomery Jr. 59, formerly of Hoschton, died Saturday, October 3, 2009, at his residence in Heflin, La. Born on June 10, 1950, in Lampasas, Texas, he was the son of Evelyn Montgomery and the late Andrew Montgomery. He attended Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Texas, where he was active in band and FFA and graduated in 1968. He attend ed Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, where he was a member of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity and graduated in 1972 with a degree in Agricultural Education. Following gradu ation, he moved to Hoschton, where he taught high school and later owned and operated a video and electronics store in Hoschton. He attained the degree of Master Mason at Rockwell Lodge No. 191 in Hoschton and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Buford. He moved to Heflin, La. in February, 2009. Survivors in addition to his mother include a brother, Jim Montgomery; sisters and broth- ers-in-law, Carleigh and Todd Leake, Heflin, La., and Marcia and George Dickerson, Weston, Colo.; three nieces, Jessica Leigh Haynie and Melanie Cheek Kilburn, both of Hoschton, and Julie Cheek Miller, Dacula. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 10, at the Heflin United Methodist Church at 2 p.m., with Pastor Carol Heard officiating. Burial will be at Caradan Cemetery in Mills County, Texas. She was retired from the Banks County School System as a lunchroom worker with 14 years of dedicated service. A native of Hayward County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Wilson Trafford and Allie Jones Hinsley. She was a farmer during her life, but volunteered for several organizations. She was very active at her church. Friendship Baptist Church in Danielsville, assisted with the Madison County High School Senior Banquet for many years, and devoted a lot of her time at the Senior Center in Madison County. Mrs. Turner was pre ceded in death by her husband, J.H. Turner; brother, Doug Hinsley; sisters, Olive Chandler and Christine Rayford; and a half sister, Lucille Hughes.
