Stephen Dodson, a former
University of Georgia player and
current minor league pitcher, has
joined the staff of the Diamond
Club, a local baseball and soft-
ball instruction facility.
Dodson went 7-1 with a 2.45
ERA in 25 appearances for
the Asheville Tourists, a single
A affiliate of the Colorado
Rockies.
Dodson will work with the
Diamond Club until March
when he has to report for spring
training.
Dodson pitched for UGA’s
2008 team that advanced to
the College World Series and
finished second in the nation.
He was a second-team All-SEC
selection that year.
Colorado drafted him in the
10 th round in 2008.
The Diamond Club is locat
ed on Hwy. 29, just south of
Danielsville.

League holding
membership
meeting today
Madison County Little League
will hold its annual membership
meeting today (Thursday, Oct.
29) at 7 p.m. in the commission
ers’ meeting room at the court
house in Danielsville.
The organization seeks vol
unteers to serve on the board
of directors, help on commit
tees, fundraising and many other
tasks needed “to make the pro
gram a success.” Those want
ing to volunteer for the board
of directors, serve as a general
member or gain information on
how the Little League operates
are encouraged to attend this
meeting. Madison County Little
League will vote on its board
of directors at this meeting. For

Comer 5K Reindeer
Run/Walk is Dec. 5
The Madison County
Recreation Department has
planned the 16th annual Comer
Reindeer Run/Walk for Saturday,
Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. in conjunc
tion with the annual Comer
Christmas Parade.
The event is a combination 5K
run-walk, with the option of a
1.7- mile "run, walk or crawl”
shortcut, according to organiz
ers.
The entry fee is $15 for par
ticipants with registrations post
marked by Friday, Nov. 13 and
$20 after that.
T-shirts are long sleeved and
are guaranteed in the requested
size to all pre-registered par
ticipants.
There is also a $10 no-shirt
option for registration.
All races begin at 10 a.m.
Divisions include (male and
female) 10-and-under, 11-14,
15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34,
35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54,
55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70-and-
over.
Those competing in the 5K
race are eligible for the follow
ing awards: first-place overall
finisher, the top masters (40-and-
over) and first- and second-place
division winners for both male
and female divisions.

calligraphy
lessons Dec. 6
The Madison County
Recreation Department will
offer calligraphy lessons on
Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Madison
County Library meeting room
from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
to those at least 12 years
old. The fee is $10 per per
son. Registration deadline is
December 4. Those signing late
will be charged an additional
$5. The $10 fee includes all
supplies for the class.
Mike Moak, Hull, instructs
the class. Moak has been teach
ing calligraphy for 15 years
including teaching at Michael’s
in Athens. The lessons will
cover areas such as the basic
calligraphy strokes, pen and ink
use and basic layout planning.

Bass Masters Club
seeking new
members
The Madison County Bass
Masters Club, the only feder
ated Bass Masters organization
in the county, is seeking new
members.
The group meets the last
Thursday of each month at the
Madison County Government
Complex and fishes the first
Saturday of the month. The
group welcomes those want
ing to learn how to fish or fish
competitively.
Members of the club fish as
individuals, and the top fish
ermen from the organization
have the opportunity to com
pete against members of other
federated Bass Master clubs in
the state.

the all-important win column by
year's end.
Madison County enjoyed an
18-game winning streak at one
point and finished with 27 vic
tories.
That total ranks second behind
the 2001 state runner-up squad
that won 30 games.
The 2009 team’s .871 winning
percentage, however, is the pro
gram’s best, topping that of the
2001 team (.810).
