Jackson EMC
cautions customers
of impersonation
incident
An incident in Hall County of
a man pretending to be a Jackson
EMC field service representative,
frequently called a meter reader,
has prompted the cooperative
to issue a warning to customers
about allowing strangers access to
their homes and property.
"This individual wore a shirt
bearing a patch with ‘Jackson
EMC' written in red script and told
the homeowner that he was there
to cut the power off,” said Jackson
EMC Vice President-Customer
Service, Jim Crawford. "It's
possible that he was looking for
an opportunity to burglarize the
home or collect money from
this customer. Fortunately, the
homeowner had a large dog and
the man left the property without
incident.”
Crawford said customers
should always look for the
Jackson EMC logo on employee
shirts and vehicles, or the logo
for TruCheck, a contractor for
the cooperative, on vehicles that
will also have magnetic signage
saying work is being done for
Jackson EMC. Customers may
also request that an individual
who says they are a cooperative
employee produce a Jackson EMC
photo identification card.
"Unfortunately, several of
TruCheck ‘s magnetic signs have
been stolen, so customers should
make sure the vehicle also has that
company’s logo imprinted on the
door panel,” Crawford explained.
If customers don't see the
appropriate identification cards,
logos and signage and are unsure
about an employee purporting
to represent Jackson EMC, they
should immediately call their
local office to verify that someone
has been sent to their home.
“While we want our employees
to be as productive as possible
during their work day, we also
value the safety of our customers
and don't mind taking a few
minutes to assure them that the
person they’re dealing with is truly
a Jackson EMC representative,”
Crawford noted.
Foundation grant
will help provide
mammography
services
The Jackson EMC Foundation
has awarded a $7,500 grant to
help provide digital mobile
mammography unit services to
rural areas through the Athens
Regional Foundation.
Nearly 40,000 new cases of
breast cancer were diagnosed in
Georgia during 2008. The mobile
unit is designed to reach women
in rural areas who have less access
to medical services, the working
poor and medically indigent. All
services are free of charge.
“We have the latest in digital
diagnostic equipment, allowing
greater accuracy and speed of
processing, which leads to a
more timely diagnosis,” notes
Foundation Director Helene
Schwartz. "Our goal is to extend
this technology beyond our Breast
Health Center, and help educate
women on the importance of
screening and early detection.”
Foundation grants are made
possible by Jackson EMC
members’ contributions to the
Operation Round Up program,
which rounds up electric bills
of participating members to the
next dollar amount and uses the
spare change to do charitable
work. Since its creation in October
2005, the Foundation has awarded
more than $3.8 million through
343 grants to organizations and
144 grants to individuals.
Any individual or charitable
organization in the 10 counties
served by Jackson EMC (Clarke,
Banks, Barrow, Franklin,
Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson, Lumpkin,
Madison and Oglethorpe) may
apply for Foundation funding by
completing a grant application,
available online at http://www.
jacksonemc.com/Guidelines-for-
Funding. 106.0.html or at local
Jackson EMC offices. Applicants
do not need to be a member of
Jackson EMC.
