Obituaries
Harold Allen Baise
Harold Allen Baise, 42, died
Wednesday, November 18, 2009,
at his mother’s home in Hull.
He was the son of Doug Baise
of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Bob
and Sue Money of Hull. He lost
a long battle with Hodgkins
Lymphoma cancer, and was a
member of Galilee Holiness
Church, baptized in July of 2009.
He graduated from Middlesboro
High School in Middlesboro,
Ky., in 1985, and then attended
the University of Tennessee. He
worked in the fast food service
industry all of his life before
becoming ill.
He was fully devoted to serving
God and loved his church fam
ily. He will be greatly missed by
everyone who knew him, loved
ones stated.
Mr. Baise was preceded in
death by grandparents, Rosevelt
Baise and a very special grand
mother, Gerdie Baise, James
Hagerman, Cora Ann Hagerman
Shoffner and stepgrandfather,
Raymond Shoffner and Charles
and Lucy Money; brothers,
Billy Joe Money and Douglas
McAurthur Baise.
Survivors in addition to his
parents include brothers and sis-
ter-in-law, Larry Douglas Baise,
Chesapeake, Ohio, and Bobby
and Susan Money, Danielsville;
sister and brother-in-law. Crystal
Dawn and Joshua Eugene Bonner,
Fort Hood, Texas; a host of aunts
and uncles, nieces and nephews,
as well as one special nephew
and close friend, Bobby Cordell-
Bonner.
Two wake services were con
ducted. The first was conducted
at the Galilee Holiness Church on
Jot-Em-Down Road in Commerce
on Saturday, November 21, with
the Rev. Larry Dyer officiat
ing. The second was conducted
on Wednesday, November 25,
at the Hall Funeral Home in
Procterville, Ohio, with Pastor
Ronnie D. Tyree officiating.
Burial was at the Miller Cemetery
in Procterville, Ohio. Pallbearers
were Joshua Bonner, Michael
and Paul Harrell, Brandon Smith,
Bobby Cordell, and James Ray
Baise.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce,
was in charge of arrangements.

‘Richie’ Behlog
BRASELTON - Richard N.
“Richie” Behlog, 74, formerly
of New Hartford and current
ly of Braselton, died Thursday,
November 19, 2009, with his lov
ing wife and sons at his bedside.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was
the son of the late Anthony and
Mary Nassutti Behlog. He was
educated in Utica schools. He
moved to Utica as a young boy
from Brooklyn and resided there
until 1988, when he retired to
Boca Raton, Fla. In 1999, he and
his family moved to Braselton,
where he has since lived. On
May 5, 1985, he married Terre
Winchester in St. Agnes Church
in Utica, a blessed union of 24
years. He was involved in many
different businesses during his
lifetime, but most notably he was
president and owner of Behlog
Produce, Inc., of Utica, until his
retirement in 1988. Skeet shoot
ing, woodworking and playing
golf were his enjoyments in life
in addition to his love for trav
eling, which he did extensive
ly from Europe to Africa and
South America to most recently
Bangkok, Thailand.
There were many special people
in his life, especially Monsignor
Francis Willenburg, former Pastor
of St. Agnes Church in Utica, and
Robert Tedesco and his family of
Las Vegas, Nev.
Survivors include his lov
ing wife, Terre; sons, Richard
Nicholas Behlog Jr., and Anthony
Michael Behlog, both of Braselton;
daughter, Lisa Giorgina Behlog,
New Hartford; two brothers-in-
law and three sisters-in-law, Rene
Behlog, Binghampton, William
and Linda Martin, Savannah, and
Richard and Melanie Mayer, West
Palm Beach, Fla.; mother-in-law,
Ruth Wills, West Palm Beach,
Fla.; grandmother-in-law, Louise
Renz; aunts and uncles, Paul and
Judith Fournier, and Michael and
Nancy Renz, all of West Palm
Beach, Fla.; nieces and neph
ews, Peter, Diana, Samantha
and Jade Behlog, Binghampton,
Brian and Angela Ward, Anthony
Richard and Mary DiBenedetto,

He was preceded in death by a
brother, Samuel Behlog.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, November 24, from the
Bentz & Amodio Funeral Service,
Inc., 470 French Rd., Utica/New
Hartford, and at 10:00 a.m. from
St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed
Sacrament Church, where his
Mass of Christian burial was
celebrated. Entombment was in
Calvary Cemetery.

‘Bill’Bryson

"Bill” Bryson III, 79, died Sunday,
November
15, 2009, at
St. Mary’s
Hospice
House fol
lowing an
extended ill
ness.
Born in
Rome, he
was the son
of the late
James “Jim”
and Elizabeth Bryson. Growing
up in Rome, he attended
Darlington School, graduating
Cum Laude and president of
his senior class. He excelled in
academics and football, receiv
ing numerous awards, including
"best all around” and was captain
of the football team his senior
year. After graduation, he was
appointed to the United States
Naval Academy. While there he
was a 3-year letterman, as center
for Navy football. In 1952 he
was chosen to appear in “Who’s
Who in American College and
Universities” and "Who’s Who in
Sports in America”. Graduation
from the naval academy led him
to be stationed at the naval air
station in Pensacola, Fla. There
he met and married his wife,
Betty Merritt. He played center
for Goshawks football team at
the N.A.S., earning a place in
the 2nd all navy football team.
From Pensacola, he was stationed
in San Diego, Calif., aboard the
USS Ernest G. Small, serv
ing overseas during the Korean
War. Returning to civilian life,
he taught in several vocation
al schools, leading him to join
the faculty of the University of
Georgia as an instructor and earn
ing his master’s degree in voca
tional education, teaching voca
tional teachers in Georgia high
schools and vocational schools
until 1977. His love of football
led him to officiating for Georgia
high schools, the SEC and the
NFL. He appeared with his
daughters in the movie “Greased
Lightening”. He left the teaching
profession, becoming a mail car
rier for the postal service until
his retirement in 1994. Because
of his love of music, he used
his rich, bass voice singing with
church choirs and the Barbershop
Harmony Society.
He is survived by his wife
of 56 years, Betty; children,
Linda Bruce (Robert), Russell
(Shirley), Becky Mallonee (Ken),
Jim (Patricia), Bill Jr. (Nine);
nine grandchildren; four great
grandchildren; and a sister, Betty
Frazier (Bob), Rome.
The family requests contri
butions be made to St. Mary’s
Hospice House, 1660 Jennings
Mill Rd., Bogart, GA 30622.
A private family memorial will
be held at a later date.

the daughter of Katie Nell Kent

late Robert Allen Stokes. She was
a homemaker. Mrs. Burks was
preceded in death by a brother,

‘Jack’Peppers
AUBURN - Jackson L. “Jack”
Peppers, 85, died Wednesday,
November 18, 2009, at his resi
dence following an extended ill
ness.
Born in Barrow County,
September 15, 1924, he was
the son of the late Boss B. and
Martha Kennedy
Peppers. He was
a member of the
Midway United
Methodist
Church, and was a retiree of
the Ford Motor Company of
Hapeville after 30 plus years of
service. Mr. Peppers was pre
ceded in death by his first wife,
Gladys Collins Peppers; three
sisters and one brother. He was
a member of The Grand Lodge
of Georgia, F. & A. M., Auburn
#230.
Mr. Peppers was a veteran of
World War II, and proudly served
in the United States Army in
the European Theatre, under the
command of General Dwight D.
Eisenhower, and fought in The
Battle of The Bulge. In a person
al interview General Eisenhower
commended Mr. Peppers saying
“That’s what I call a good sol
dier.” Mr. Peppers continued his
service under General George S.
Patton during the crossing of the
Ruhr River.
Survivors include his wife,
Dorothy Moore Peppers, and
members of her family; two sons
and daughters-in-law, Dennis
and Glenda Peppers and Phil and
Linda Peppers, all of Auburn;
eight grandchildren; eleven great
grandchildren; a sister, Willie
Mae Brady, Tucker; brother,
Eugene Peppers, Auburn; and
several nieces and nephews.

George Rice
Aviation pioneer and retired
airline executive George Erskine
Rice, 91, died on Wednesday,
November
18, 2009,
at Athens
Regional
Medical
Center in
Athens.
Mr. Rice
held a dis
tinguished,
globe-
circling,
four-decade
record in aviation history that
began in bi-planes and contin
ued into the age of supersonic
travel. He pioneered in trans-
Atlantic navigation during World
War II as a member of the Air
Transport Command; represented
the United States at the Geneva
conference that negotiated and
introduced global long-range
navigation (LORAN); created the
commercial-airline field of oper
ations analysis for Pan American
World Airways; helped coordi
nate the introduction of the first
commercial jets for Pan AM; and
was a leader in the breakthrough
effort to bring emerging nations
fully into commercial aviation,
working with the governments
of Afghanistan, Iran, Nigeria,
Ghana, Liberia, Morocco, Oman,
Bahrein, Vietnam, Puerto Rico,
Panama, Zaire, and Nepal to
create airlines and international
airports in their countries. He
retired as Vice President of Pan
Am World Services.
A member of the National
Aviation Club in Washington, DC
and of the Wings Club in New
York, which recently awarded
him its Golden Eagle, Mr. Rice
served on the boards of stewards
of the First United Methodist
Church in Westbury, New York
and of Commerce (GA) First
United Methodist Church and
was a member and Distinguished
Past President of Commerce
Kiwanis. He was a charter mem
ber of the Commerce Downtown
Development Authority and of
the Cold Sassy Players; chaired
the Jackson County Advisory
Council on Aging, which intro
duced the Meals on Wheels pro
gram in Jackson County; and
was a past vice president of the
Northeast Georgia Council of the
Boy Scouts of America, which
awarded him the Silver Beaver.
Mr. Rice was preceded in death
by his sisters, Jane Rice Templeton
and Edith Rice Blanco.
He is survived by his wife of
68 years, Mildred Trawick Rice,
and their three children, Susan
Rice Harper of Commerce; David
Erskine Rice, Raleigh, N.C.; and
Emily Rice Reynolds and hus
band, Stephen F. Reynolds of
Barrington, Ill.; and grandchil
dren Chad H. Harper, Albany,
N.Y.; Daniel Erskine Harper,
Glendale, Calif; and Caroline
Reynolds, Barrington, Ill.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, November 24, at the
Commerce First United Methodist
Church, with the Revs. David
Bowen and Dan Maxey officiat
ing. Burial was in Commerce’s
Grey Hill Cemetery.

E. and Gertrude Mooney Green.
She had been the lead teacher ear
lier in her life for Walton-Morgan
County training center, a center

was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include daughters
and sons-in-law, Trudi and Curtis
Dalton, Winder, and Tina and
Greg Kiker, Arley, Ala.; two
grandchildren, David Dalton and
Jason Travis; brother. Bob Green,
Atlanta; and sister, Dorothy
Kilgore, Chula Vista, Calif.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, November 21, from the
Chapel of Smith Funeral Home
with the Rev. Terry Tippens offi
ciating. Burial was in Barrow
Memorial Gardens.

Sula Webber
COMMERCE - Sula T.
Webber, 79, died early Friday
morning, November 20, 2009, at
Athens Regional Medical Center
in Athens.
She was born in Tattnall
County, and was married to the
Rev. John Webber, former pastor
for many years of the Commerce
Church of God. She was a min
ister herself having also served
alongside her husband as they
pastored several churches over
the years. She was also a seam
stress, a retail sales manager, and
a housewife.
Survivors along with her hus
band include a daughter and son-
in-law, Valerie Dawn and John
Massey, Commerce; sister, Sally
Anderson, Savannah; and grand
children, Michael Beck and Carly
Jade Massey.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, November 22, from the
chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with
the Revs. Bryan S. Webber, Damon
Davis, and Gary Thompson offi
ciating. A graveside service and
interment was conducted on
Monday, November 23, from
the Harden Chapel Methodist
Church in Lyons. Pallbearers,
along with several honorary
pallbearers, were Michael Beck,
Michael Kitchens, David Adams,
Tony Webber, Tommy Slater, and
Stevie Brock.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce,
was in charge of arrangements.
