Comer selected an old brick
building that sits directly
behind City Hall as the site
for its museum.
The structure, which dates
back to at least 1907, was
once a livery stable and later

job could ultimately be a 75-per
cent position. The board also
voted in favor of allowing the rec

employee from part-time to full
time service, provided the depart

seeking part-time help. Pethel and
Mike Youngblood opposed the
action. Stanley Thomas, Bruce
Scogin and Chairman Anthony
Dove voted in favor of the move.
Dove broke the 2-2 tie Monday.
The board also agreed by a 4-0
vote to keep a secretary’s posi

Perhaps the building’s most
important use came in the
1950s and 1960s when the
new year Fords models were
stowed away there before
they went to the show room.
When finished, the museum
will offer more than history.
Plans include a 17 x 11

museum’s open area is also
2,500 square feet, provid

Dove said Monday that the
county may consider altering
hours at the transfer station to
have it open at high traffic times.
For instance, he noted that with
the time change, the station is
open after dark. He said the board
may consider closing during those
hours and opening at some other
time in the week.
The transfer station will be
open Saturday, Dec. 26.
Madison County Industrial
Development and Building
Authority executive director
Marvin White issued the fol
lowing report to county com
missioners Monday:
"We have the water
cleaned up in the Hull
area. We added iron filters
at Rolling Oaks well and
James Holcomb Road well
and rebuilt the water soften
er systems at each location.
We drained and cleaned the
James Holcomb Road water
tank in mid-November, and
the Hull-Sanford tank was
also drained and cleaned
last week. This, along with
the flushing of the area’s
water system, should clear
up the problem with dirty
water which some customers
have complained about.
"We connected the
Spratlin Pond subdivision to
the Madison County Water
System last week. We have
been working on this for
some time. The homeowners
purchased the system in this
subdivision and deeded the
system and well over to the
Madison County Industrial
Development and Building
Authority. We are not using
that well at the present time,
but we do hope to utilize it
at some time in the future.
We plan to install a six-inch
water main to the well and
add fire hydrants in this sub
division.
“We completed the water
line at Brewer Phillips Road
to the Madison County
Recreation Park addition.
“The Harrison project is
coming along. We have Hwy.
281, Cheek-Pulliam Road,
Hannah’s Creek Church
Road, Aaron Brown Road
and Shirley Road completed.
We will be working on Dove
Hill Road to Hwy. 29 to con
nect to Franklin County’s
main on Hwy. 29.

Wyatt also serves as chief
of Colbert’s Fire Department,
which is operated separately
from the city government. His
victory ends an eventful 2009
political season in Colbert that
included two special elections
and Waggoner announcing the
end of his 40-year run as mayor.
The spot on the council came
open after Chris Peck vacated
his seat to run for Waggoner’s
mayoral post. Waggoner opted
not to seek re-election.
Trinrud, Wyatt and Reginald
Hunter all ran for Peck’s open
seat in a tight race back in
November. Trinrud garnered 31
votes to Wyatt's 22 and Hunter’s
20, but didn’t win a majority,
forcing the runoff between her
and Wyatt.
Tuesday's race turned out to be
as tight as the original election.
“They were running so close
there for a while, I thought we
might have a tie," Waggoner
said.
Trinrud was also involved in
the other runoff in 2009, losing to
Evelyn Patton Power in April in
the race to fill the vacated seat of
1A
former councilman Jeff Roberts.
Wyatt, a nine-year resident of
the city, joins a new-look coun
cil that includes Roger Fortson,
Bert Robinson, Patton Power
and Peck as mayor, starting in
January.
Waggoner, who’s served as
mayor since 1969, will stay on
at city hall as an administrative
assistant.
