dent of Madison County, she
was the daughter of the late
Thurston and Lucy Sorrow
Lord. She was a retired nurse
and a member of Providence
Baptist Church. Mrs. Daniel
was preceded in death by
her husband, William Elmer
Daniel.

Sr., 72, died Saturday,
December 5, 2009.
A native and lifelong res
ident of Barrow County, he
was the son of the late Roy
and Kathleen Casey DeLay.
He was a retired truck driver
with Empire Manufacturing
Company and was of the
Baptist denomination.
Survivors include his wife,
Becky Austin DeLay, Winder;

Dawn Queen, Benny DeLay

Winder; six grandchildren;

Anderson Perry. She was pre
ceded in death by her hus
band, Roy Hayes. A member
of Union Baptist Church, she
was a retired seamstress. Mrs.
Hayes was a former resident
of Jackson County and had
resided in Barrow County for
over sixty years.

both of Bethlehem; two grand
children; and six great-grand
children.

Magness, 81, died Monday,
December 7, 2009.
Born in Barrow County, he
was a son of the late Jarrell
H. and Corine McElhannon
Magness. He was a member of
Hebron Christian Church, was
retired from Thrall Car after
working many years for Rohr
Aircraft, and was a veteran
having served in the United
States Army in Korea. He
was an avid gardener, loved
ones stated.

CORNELIA - Ethel Dalton
Morris, 87, died Tuesday,
December 1, 2009, at the
Habersham County Medical
Center.
Born on December 20, 1921,
in Banks County, she was the
daughter of the late Archie and
Mary Jane Brock Dalton. She
was a member of the Level
Grove Baptist Church and was
a member of the Sunshine
Band at her church. She
delivered Meals on Wheels
for a number of years and
was employed with Runway
Fish House for a number of
years. She was employed with
Carwood Manufacturing with
31 years of service and was
retired from Ethicon with 17
years of service. Mrs. Morris
was preceded in death by
her husband, Eugene Morris;
brothers. Tommy Dalton and
James Wilton Dalton; and a
sister, Agnes Poole.
Survivors include sisters,
Gladys Poole, Baldwin, and
Edna Gary, Cornelia.
Funeral services were
held Thursday, December 3,
from the Level Grove Baptist
Church with the Revs. Terry
Rice and Brian James offi

Suwanee. Mr. Norris was
preceded in death by sisters,

ATHENS - George B.
Parham, 87, died Wednesday,
December 2, 2009.
A native of Union County, he
was the son of the late Hershel
and Etta Stiles Parham. He
served in the United States
Army during World War
II, serving in the battles of
Bismarck, Archipelago, New
Guinea, and the Southern
Philippines. He was a retired
employee of General Time. Mr.

“Shorty” Payne, 77, died

A native of Newton County,
he was the son of the late
Arlow and Pauline Payne. He
retired from Brown Transport
after 33 years of service and
was a veteran of the United
States Army, having served in
the Korean Conflict. He was of
the Baptist denomination.
Survivors include his wife,

and Bryon Gordon, and Steven

“J” Wall, 93, died Sunday,
December 6, 2009.
Born on May 19, 1916, in
Gwinnett County, he was the
son of the late William Moses
and Hattie Jones Wall. He was
a retired machine operator in
the dairy business and was a
member of the Hope Baptist
Church in Winder. Mr. Wall
was preceded in death by his
wife, Annie Mae Bratcher
Wall; and a daughter, Shirley
Malpass.
Survivors include sons,
James R. Wall and Ray
Thomas Wall; daughter-in-
law, Taw anna Wall; brother,
E.H. Wall; and sister, Modine
McElhannon, all of Statham;
companion, Florine Chatwood,
Winder; eight stepchildren; 15
grandchildren; over 20 great
grandchildren; and two great-
great-grandchildren.

Sgt. Jamie Stan
Westmoreland
BANKS COUNTY - Sgt.
Jamie Stan Westmoreland,
27, died Sunday, November
29, 2009, at BJC Hospital in
Commerce.
Born in Clarke County, he was
the son of Wayne Westmoreland
of Commerce and Leighan and
Paul Montecalvo of Banks
County. He served his coun
try through the Army National
United States
Army as the
sergeant of his own squad in
Baghdad for 14 months. He
then returned to Ft. Sill, Okla.,
and trained new soldiers in
urban warfare, and recently
became a certified firefighter
in Banks County and the City
of Homer. As stated by his
family, “We are all very proud
to have had him in our lives.”
Sgt. Westmoreland was pre
ceded in death by his pater
nal grandfather, Lt. Branson
Westmoreland; and an uncle,
Chris Westmoreland.
Survivors in addition to his
parents include a son, Austin
Westmoreland, Commerce;
fiancee, Michelle Spence,
Banks County; brothers,
Clinton Westmoreland, Travis
Cook, Austin Montecalvo
