Patrick McCrary is presented a basketball by Red Raider
coach Steve Crouse Saturday night against Brookwood in
honor of McCrary’s 1,000th career point. Ben Munro/staff

•Madison Co. 62, Brookwood
59 (Dec. 5): McCrary scored
his 1,000 th career point Saturday
night but Raines sparked Madison
County's fifth victory of the year.
Raines scored 18 points and
grabbed 16 boards as the Red
Raiders defeated the Broncos
62-59 in Danielsville.
Stan Maxwell also finished with
a double-double, scoring 11 points
and pulling down 14 boards.
McCrary, who was injured in the
second quarter and limited the
rest of the way, had 11 points and
seven rebounds.
Madison County started fast —
the Red Raiders led by 22 points
late in the second quarter — but
let the large lead evaporate,
“I think we’ve got complacent,”
Crouse said.
Madison County trailed by five
points midway through the fourth
quarter before putting the Class
AAAAA Broncos away.
The Red Raiders’ 29 turnovers
allowed Brookwood to stay in the
ball game and briefly pull ahead.
“That’s 29 possessions that we
don’t get a shot up,” Crouse said.
McCrary got the milestone
out of the way early, passing the
1,000-point plateau with a first-
quarter free throw.
“The true testimony to that is
that he works just hard all the
time,” Crouse said of McCrary’s
accomplishment. “He works hard
all the time. It’s just non-stop. You
just start to run out of accolades at
some point, because he’s just such
a good kid.”
•Monroe Area 69, Madison
Co. 48 (Dec. 4): Sophomore
Monroe Area guard Ken Jackson
scored 15 points in the first half
Friday night to hand Madison
County its first loss of the season.
The Red Raiders trailed 35-20 at
intermission and never recovered
in a 6948 setback on the road.
Jackson finished with 21 points.
“He was the difference in the
ball game,” Crouse said. "He
scores 21 and we lose by 21.”
Crouse said his team was well
aware of Jackson but didn’t get
the job done defensively.
“Bottom line, we didn’t defend
well,” Crouse said.
Madison County shot just 31 per
cent from the floor and committed
19 turnovers.
McCrary, who led the Red
Raiders with 14 points, cut the
Monroe Area lead to 57-48
with 1:16 left, but the Purple
Hurricanes closed the game with
a 12-0 run.

Madison County allowed just nine first half points
en route to an easy victory.
The Lady Raiders, who were up by 30 by half
time, quit pressing Heritage in the second half with
the comfortable lead in hand.
"It’s a really hard indicator game,” Lampe said.
Kayla Freeman led Madison County with 16
points and eight rebounds, while Shantydra Arnold
added 11 for the Lady Raiders, who were coming
off a 61-53 loss to Brookwood on Saturday.
One encouraging sign from Tuesday’s victory
came at the free throw line, Lampe said. Freeman
led the effort at the charity stripe, going 10-for-10.
•Brookwood 61, Madison Co. 53 (Dec. 5):
Madison County squandered a seven-point halftime
lead Saturday in its second loss of the year, falling to
visiting Brookwood 61-53.
Brookwood pulled ahead 38-37 at the end of
three quarters and then hit 12 of its last 16 free
throws in the fourth quarter to pull away from
Madison County.
The Lady Raiders played much of the game in
foul trouble and with limited personnel.
"I felt that the fouls took us out of our style of
play,” Lampe said.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for
the Lady Raiders.
Kayla Freeman led Madison County with 15
points and Samantha La7x‘ar added 11.
•Madison Co. 59, Monroe Area 35: Despite
some stagnant first-half moments, Madison County
posted an easy 59-35 over Monroe Area Friday, led
by 16 points from I^auren Smith.
Kayla Freeman added 11 points and Molly Glaze
scored 10 as Madison County earned a cross-over
win in Region 8-AAAA play.
Glaze scored all 10 of her points Friday night in
the second quarter as Madison County rallied from
a 17-13 deficit. Smith hit a runner just before the
half time buzzer to put the Lady Raiders up 29-19
at the break.
"It all comes down to defensive intensity,” iAmpe
said of his team’s slump in the first half. “We've
really only had one good game defensively and that
was against Salem.”

Madison County then outscored Monroe Area
16-5 in the first five and a half minutes of the second
half to put the Lady Purple Hurricanes away.
