Mother charged with child cruelty
A Danielsville woman was
arrested last week after she
allegedly bit and punched
her juvenile daughter during
an altercation.
Tara Elizabeth Sosebee,
32, 257 Bonds Lake Road,
was charged with one count
of cruelty to children in the
first degree.
According to the incident
report, Sosebee and her
daughter were traveling on
Black's Creek Church Road
when the girl began cursing
at her mother and Sosebee
took her phone away as pun
ishment. The girl then report
edly struck her mother in the
back of the head, at which
point the mother stopped the
car and jumped over into the
back seat with her daughter,
hitting her and biting her on
the leg, which left a punc
ture wound. The daughter
said her mother called her a
“wh#$%” at the beginning of
the altercation, when she told
her mother she wanted to go
home and fix her hair.
Sosebee called 911 after
she and her daughter arrived
back home and began argu
ing again.
In another arrest, a
Tennessee woman was
arrested after deputies were
summoned to a domestic dis
pute on Allen Road.
Dorothy Elaine Nunns,
46, of 1845 Shaffer Street,
Dyersburg, Tenn., was
charged with one count each
of simple battery on a peace
officer and criminal trespass.
According to the incident
report, Deputy Jeff Strickland
responded to a call and met
with Nunns live-in boyfriend
who said he and Nunns were
visiting her daughter when
he found her (Nunns) with
another man. He then threw
her clothing out of his car
onto the ground and when
she saw what he had done,
she reportedly came outside,
grabbed a concrete block and
threw it at his windshield
where it broke the wind
shield. When the boyfriend
called 911, Nunns allegedly
began to run across a pasture
at the rear of the residence.
Deputy Strickland located
her behind a barn and told
her she was under arrest. She
then reportedly became very
irate and began jumping up

Strickland in the groin area.
He then placed handcuffs on
her and took her without fur
ther incident to the jail for
processing.

Crime and court policy
It is the policy of this
newspaper to print the
names of all persons arrest
ed and booked through the
Madison County Jail. No
exceptions are made to that
policy.
This newspaper also rou
tinely publishes the names
of those involved in criminal
court cases as those actions
make their way through the
judicial system, including
the final disposition of the
case when it is known.
We caution our readers,
however, that an arrest is
not a conviction and an indi
vidual is presumed innocent
under the law until con
victed of a crime for which
he has been charged.
In addition to arrest
reports, we also routinely
publish items from inci
dent reports filed with local
law enforcement agencies.
Most of the time, the names
of those involved are not
published unless one party
has been officially charged
with a crime.

Athens man tasered,
arrested on Hwy. 29
in Danielsville Mon.
An Athens man was arrested after he was tasered in the
middle of Hwy. 29 in Danielsville Monday morning after
he reportedly ran from officers at the at the county govern
ment complex.
Demetrius Lamar Ransom, 38, of 116 Femwood Court,
was charged with one count each of obstruction of officers
and public drunkenness after Chief Deputy Major Shawn
Bums apprehended him using his taser during a short foot
chase from the Golden Pantry.
According to the incident report, Deputy Josh Smith was
at the complex for courthouse security when a screener
advised him that a black male who had passed through
security screening had a strong odor of alcohol. Smith
approached the man, who identified himself as Ransom
and Smith also noted a strong alcohol odor. Smith asked
Ransom to step outside and take a handheld breath test.
Once outside, Ransom told the deputy that he was “not
drunk today,” but had gotten drunk late the night before.
He gave an insufficient sample for the breath test and
deputy Smith advised him that he was being arrested
for public drunkenness. At that point, Ransom allegedly
became belligerent, taking a swing at the deputy before
trying to run away. Deputy Smith issued verbal commands
for him to stop, and then deployed his taser, which did
not penetrate his skin because of a thick jacket. Ransom
continued to run toward the Golden Pantry with Smith in
pursuit on foot and calling 911 for back up.
When they reached the Golden Pantry, Smith was joined
by Major Shawn Bums, Danielsville police chief Rodney
Christian and Capt. Rex Matthews.
Major Bums joined the foot chase and gave several ver
bal commands for Ransom to stop before deploying his
taser, which brought the chase to an end.
EMS was called to the scene and gave clearance for
Ransom to be booked into the Madison County Jail.
Ransom received a laceration to his lip area when he fell
after being tasered, according to the report.
Madison County 911 advised officers on scene that
Ransom also had two active felony warrants concerning
fleeing officers and a drug charge.
Bomb threat
reported at MCHS
The E-911 Center received a bomb threat around 11:15 a.m.
Tuesday, stating that there was possibly some type of device in the
gymnasium at Madison County High School.
Officers from the sheriff’s department, Danielsville police, the
Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation respond
ed to the school and swept both the high school gym and the Colt
Academy gym but found nothing suspicious, according to chief deputy
Major Shawn Bums of the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
School officials opted not to evacuate the school and business was
conducted as usual during the search, according to Bums.
The incident remains under investigation.
Bums said this was the second such incident at the school so far this
school year.
DOT launches teen
driving website
The Georgia Department of Transportation has launched
a new resource for teen drivers and their parents.
The website — “Teen Driving Safety 101,” www.dot.
ga.gov/teendriving — is a “one-stop” information portal
providing information on driving laws, safety tips and travel
information to help teens stay safe behind the wheel.
The website was developed in partnership with the
Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Department of
Driver Services, and Riverdale High School's Technology
Team. In addition to these partners, the site includes links to
other government agencies and sites with information about
teen driving laws and general travel information.
