FRESHMAN ACADEMY
FFA HOLDS TOY DRIVE
The Madison County Freshman Academy has been collect
ing toys for Madison County children in need of Christmas
toys. MCHS Freshman Academy students have collected
toys since Thanksgiving. Other Freshman Academy FFA
community service projects this year include making and
delivering Christmas cards for the nursing home, collecting
can tabs for cancerous children in the Ronald McDonald
House and creating and delivering Valentine’s Day cards to
the nursing home. Pictured with the FFA toy collection are

ELECTRIFYING EXPERIENCE
Ila Elementary School fifth graders participated in an
electrifying experience with static electricity. Andy Felt
(teacher at the Ninth Grade Academy and parent of an Ila
Elementary School 5th grade student), demonstrated the
movement of electrons with the Van De Graff generator and
the tesla coil. Students and teachers said they enjoyed Felt’s
presentation.
THANKSGIVING MEAL
Caleb Seely, “Plymouth Gov. William Bradford,” and Briana
Hawks, “Indian Princess,” enjoy a Thanksgiving meal
in Wendy Dalton’s kindergarten class at Ila Elementary
School.
CHURNED BUTTER AND CORNBREAD
Ba Elementary School kindergarten teacher Wendy Dalton
serves butter the class churned to go with combread they
made during a Thanksgiving feast.
MEAT EVALUATION TEAM COMPETES
AT STATE EVENT
The Madison County Freshman Academy FFA Meats
Evaluation CDE Teams recently competed in the State FFA
Meats Evaluation and Technology Career Development Event
(CDE) at the UGA Animal and Dairy Science Building and
Meats Lab in Athens Dec. 5. Participants take a written exami
nation, identify retail cuts, and grade carcasses on quality
and yield grade. Team members include Brian Johnson, Kim
Croya, Caleb Seymore, Kate Russum and Rebekah Johnson.
The junior team placed 15 out of more than 20 teams. Caleb
Seymore was 18 have individual at the contest and Kate
Russum was 20 high individual in the contest out of more than
70 FFA members competing statewide.

overall theme of the program was “Christmas Everywhere,” as each ensemble performed various musical selections

MCMS BANDS HOLD CHRISTMAS CONCERT
The Madison County Middle School Mustang Bands presented their 2009
Christmas Concert Monday, Dec. 7.
‘CHRISTMAS EVERYWHERE’
The Madison County Middle School Mustang Bands presented their 2009 Christmas Concert “Christmas Everywhere,”
which showcased music from around the world. The sixth grade beginning band performed “Hallelujah Chorus from
England,” while the seventh grade concert band performed Siberian Sleighride from Russian and African Noel from
Liberia. The eighth grade Symphonic Band performed Christmas Around the World which was a medley of songs
and carols from England, France, Spain, China, and the United States. Other pieces performed included Housetop
Variations, Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming, and the final piece, White Christmas was performed jointly by the eighth
Grade Symphonic Band and Mustang Chorus. The Mustang Band program has approximately 160 members and is
under the direction of Phillip Smith.
