Georgia DOT launches teen driving website

The website — “Teen
Driving Safety 101," www.
dot.ga.gov/teendriving — is
a "one-stop" information
portal providing informa
tion on driving laws, safety
tips and travel information to
help teens stay safe behind
the wheel.
"Vehicle crashes are the
leading cause of death
among American teens,” said
Georgia DOT Commissioner
Vance C. Smith Jr. "The
department is dedicated to
reducing teen crashes in
Georgia, and part of that mis
sion involves ensuring that
Georgia teens have the infor

safe, responsible drivers.
"With school activities.
homecoming dances and
football games all on their
schedules, it is important
that teens and their families
be able to get the informa
tion they need quickly and
easily,” Smith added. “This
website, ‘Teen Driving
Safety 101,’ is designed to
provide teens and their par
ents a ‘one-stop’ site that
they can access with just one
click.”
The website was devel

the Governor’s Office

In addition to these partners,
the site includes links to
other government agencies

near the Broad River Bridge on Hwy. 172 just inside
the Madison County line and taken by Madison

DOT: Please turn off
outdoor sprinklers
The Georgia Department of Transportation is reminding
people to prevent ice on the roadways by turning off their
sprinkler systems during the winter.
“Sprinkler systems that are left on overnight can create a
hazardous condition for motorists the next morning,” said
DOT district maintenance engineer Todd McDuffie.
“Every year, we see accidents caused by icy spots formed
when water from sprinkler systems gets onto the roadway,”
he added. “Spray from the sprinkler is blown onto the road
or water drains onto the road; black ice is formed and ice
develops creating a hazard for motorists.”
McDuffie asked that residents ensure that their automatic
sprinkler systems are turned off and to check for icy patches
or "black ice” in the mornings after sub-freezing tempera
tures hit.
CDC: Emails about
H1N1 program are scam
The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention
(CDC) is warning about a
potential email “phishing”
scam involving the state vac
cination program for HINI.
The email asks people
to create a personal H1N1
("swine flu”) vaccination
profile on the CDC.gov web
site.
The email says that every
one 18 and older must have a
personal vaccination profile
on the website — regardless
if they have been vaccinated
or not for the H1N1 vims. It
asks users to click on a link
to create a personal profile.
Users that click on the
embedded link in the email
are at risk of having mali
cious code installed on their
system, the CDC said in a
statement.
Users are urged to not open
or respond to unsolicited
email messages, not to click
on links embedded in emails
from unknown senders and
use caution when providing
personal information online.
