THE MADISON COUNTY (GA) JOURNAL. THURSDAY. DECEMBER 31. 2009 — PAGE 7A School News MADISON COUNTY STUDENTS TAKE TRIP ‘BACK IN TIME’ The gifted third grade students from all five elementary schools took a special trip Dec. 15 to visit some past cultures. The students visited the Carlos Museum on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta. The museum houses several collections of artifacts from many cul tures - including: Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Mesopotamian and Mesoamerican. The students were particularly interested in the Egyptian and Greek exhibits as they are currently study ing these in their gifted and regular classrooms. The students learned much about the daily lives, religion, and burial practices of the ancient Egyptians. Several mummies (even cats and birds) were on display. “The students saw many beautiful artifacts from ancient Greece and learned how the ancient Greeks influenced our way of government in the United States by laying the foundation for a democracy,” teachers said. Founder’s Corner by Buhl Cummings FINDING JESUS... Shepherds gathered their flowing robes to hurry to Him; the Magi braved cold, desert, and mountains to find Him; a doubting follower exclaimed "My Lord and my God," when he really found Him. And today, those on every continent who have come to Him declare with the Apostle Paul: "The Son of God, who loved, me, and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2:20). Wise men still seek Him, and those who seek, find. In and through Jesus Christ, and Him alone, are to be found forgiveness, inward peace, joy in life today, and the promise of life eternal.
