LEARNING ABOUT LETTERS
Marianne Boggs’ kindergarten class at Ila Elementary School
learns about a different letter each week. Every Friday, the
students eat a snack to help them remember the letter and
the sound it makes. Pictured are Elaina Braswell and Peyton
Cook, who have fun adding worms to the “dirt.”

HILBURN TRAVELS TO STATE COMPETITION
Stephanie Hilbum placed first out of more than 21 students
in the Sub-Area II FFA Job interview career development
event (CDE) at Jackson County High School in Jefferson
Feb. 4. Hilburn then placed second the Area II contest Feb.
10 at UGA. She now has the chance to compete on the state
level. Students must go through what would be a real life
interview with a panel of judges. Hilbum will be Madison
County’s first ninth grader to compete on the state level. The
state contest will be held at the State FFA/FCCLA Center in
Covington March 20 where the team must give a communica
tions presentation to a panel of judges. Hilbum’s parents are
Teresa and Jeff Hilburn and they reside in Danielsville.

Danielsville Elementary School Spelling Bee winners
from the fourth and fifth grade classes were first place,
Emily Bartlett; second place, Jonathan Crouse; and third
place, Sydney Arnold.

HULL BEST ATTENDANCE WINNERS
Tamara Appling’s kindergarten class was recently award
ed a trophy and banner for having the best attendance at
Hull Sanford Elementary School for January. Pictured

FFA ENJOYS BOWLING
The Freshman Academy FFA chapter held an after school
meeting at Showtime Bowling in Athens.
Hull student
to compete
for Mr. ABAC
Cody Seagraves, Hull, will com
pete with 15 other men for the title
of Mr. ABAC at Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College on Feb. 18.
The theme for this year’s event
is “ABAC Overboard.” Seagraves
is a sophomore wildlife transfer CODY SEAGRAVES
major. He is the son of Mickey and
Lisa Seagraves and is sponsored
by the ABAC FFA. Contestants are sponsored by campus clubs, athletic
teams and student media. They will compete in casual attire, formal
attire and interview categories. Contestants will also be judged on a writ
ten timed essay. The top contestant will receive a plaque and a cash prize.
A contestant’s interview and essay award will also be given. The Family
and Consumer Sciences Club members will choose "Mr. Photogenic,”
“Best Eyes,” “Best Smile, and other awards.
COUNTYWIDE SPELLING BEE WINNERS

COUNTYWIDE SPELLING BEE CONTESTANTS
The Madison County School System Spelling Bee was held
at Danielsville Elementary School Feb. 2. Twenty students,
representing the elementary and middle schools, were
involved in the spelling bee. Foster Loftis placed first. Nicole
Jordan placed second. Zach Peneguy and Kayla Muench
tied for third place. The Spelling Bee was one of the longest
held in recent years. It went for a total of 26 rounds with
14 of those rounds between two students for first place.
