Time to cut
the ribbon
Ceremony for expanded
library set for Saturday
The long-awaited library
expansion is finally done.
And local citizens and lead
ers will gather Saturday to
cut the ribbon and make it
official.
A ribbon cutting and dedi
cation ceremony for the
newly renovated library will
be held at 10 a.m., Saturday,
March 31.
Renovation work began at
the library in April 2011. The
project includes five addi
tions to the building, which
has nearly doubled the build
ing's footprint; 7.500 square
feet were added to the
original 10,000-square-foot
building. The library now
has a larger and redesigned
children’s area, larger public
meeting room, more room
to study, a new computer
lab. new genealogy research
room and more space in gen
eral for the collection.
“The children's area has
been completely redesigned
with a lodge theme, and now
we have a dedicated story
time area,” said Suzanne
DeGrasse. Madison County
Library branch manager.

MUSIC
MCHS spring symphonic
band drawing attention
The Madison County Band
won a national title in the
fall. And the school’s spring
symphonic band is picking
up noteworthy accolades,
too.
The symphonic band par
ticipated in the Georgia
Music Educators Association
(GMEA) large group perfor
mance evaluation March 15
in Hart County, earning the
top “superior” ratings from
three judges, while perform
ing “level 6” material, the
most difficult rating. The
band also received an “excel
lent” rating for sight read
ing — participants are given
sheet music and required to
play the unfamiliar material
as smoothly as possible.

COMMUNITY EVENT
Easter Egg
hunt set for
Saturday
The 25 th annual Easter
Egg Hunt will be held
Saturday, March 31, at the
Madison County Recreation
Department at 10 a.m.
The egg hunt is free of
charge and is open to all
children ages 8 and under.
Participants are asked to
bring a canned food item
to donate to the Madison
County Food Bank.
Children will be divided
into four age divisions: 2
and under, 3-4 year olds, 5-6
year olds and 7-8 year olds.
“There will be over 4,000
eggs. 20 prizes, and plenty of
fun for everyone!” organiz
ers said.
In case of inclement
weather, the rain date is
Saturday. April 7, at 10 a.m.

Bonding
agency
reinstated

A bonding agency that
was banned from serving
the Madison County Jail has
been reinstated.
A court order issued this
week from U.S. District
Judge Clay D. Land puts
Double “O” Bonding back
in business at the Madison
County Jail.
“... It is ordered that plain
tiffs be reinstated as profes
sional bondsmen effective
immediately without the
need for re-application for
the Madison County Jail,
and the sheriff of Madison
County, Kip Thomas, is
hereby enjoined from
removing plaintiffs from the
list of approved bondsmen,
recommending any bond
ing company, or interfering
with plaintiffs' business until
further order of the court
during the pendency of this
action...” stated the judge's
order.

Environmental ed:
Madison Go. third graders
learn about recycling,
protecting environment

Third graders at Madison County’s five
elementary schools visited the county
transfer station this week to learn about
the importance of recycling and not litter
ing. as well as where their trash goes after
they throw it in a trash can.
“If we teach the children in lower
grades what to do, this is something they
can carry throughout their lives,” said
