MCRD to offer
women’s 5 a.m. fitness club
The Madison County Recreation
Department is offering a women’s 5
a.m. fitness club.
This course incorporates car
diovascular, weight resistance and
body weight exercises for a total
body workout. Modifications are
given for all exercises, making this
an excellent program for all skill
levels.
“Participants can look forward to
losing body fat, improving cardio
vascular endurance, and increasing
strength, stamina and energy level in
a fun and positive workout environ
ment,’’ organizers said.
Each class includes an active
warm-up with static and dynamic
stretching; a cardiovascular portion
in which participants walk, jog,
lunge, etc., and perform calisthenics,
body weight, band and ball exer-

“We scored another great
team goal to pull the game
back to 4-3,” said Mangan.
Shane McCullough played
the ball back to Sebastian,
who released Ereck Larkins
into space. Larkins found
Tanner Jordan, who played
Myles through for Myles'
second goal of the game.
“We applied a lot of pres
sure to try to tie the game,
but Apalachee got their fifth
goal to put the game away
with around five minutes to
go,” said Mangan. “Myles
had a great game for us, and
the distribution of Forrest
Gaskin and Oliver Espinoza
was excellent throughout the
game. We were disappointed
to not get a better result, espe
cially after starting so well.”
Madison County’s recent
matchup with Baldwin
County was cancelled due to
weather.
The team also lost 2-1 to
Cedar Shoals recently in
overtime.
“The first half against Cedar
was probably the worst that
we have played all year,” said
Mangan. “We didn’t main
tain any possession, and we
got beat to every single ball.
We played much better in the

inning. The Raiders made an
attempt to push home their
first runs of the game in the
fourth inning. Daniel Brooks
opened the frame with a sin
gle to right and advanced to
second after the Patriots’ sec
ond baseman couldn’t handle
a grounder off the bat of Alex
Jordan. Brooks ended up at
third base on a wild pitch that
also moved Jordan into scor
ing position at second. Both
runners were left on base
when the inning ended on a
grounder back to the mound
by Hayden Frey.
Madison County was able
to push across their only
run coming in the bottom
of the sixth inning. Daniel
Townsend lined a double to
the gap in left center field
and moved to third on a wild
pitch before crossing home
on Heritage’s second error of
the game. Madison County
then went quietly in the final
inning allowing the Patriots to
leave town with the 8-1 win.

had the only 3 hits of the night
for the Raiders.

Habersham 7
Madison County ral
lied from a late deficit to
top Habersham Central 8-7
in eight innings on the road
April 4.
The Raiders jumped ahead
early, posting two runs in the
top of first on an RBI double
by Brock Turner and a sacri
fice fly RBI by Alex Jordan.
But the lead was short-lived
as the Raiders from Mt. Airy
answered with three runs
in the bottom of the inning.
However. Madison County
rallied for three runs in the
top of the third on a two-run
single by Jordan and an RBI
on a sacrifice fly by Hayden
Frey. Habersham answered
with a run in the bottom of
the third and three in the bot
tom of the fifth to carry a 7-5
lead into the sixth.
The boys from Danielsville
then knotted the score in the
sixth on an RBI on a sacrifice
fly by Daniel Brooks and a

the end of a long clearance
and headed it to Oliver, who
ripped a shot from 25 yards
out to beat the keeper.”
Madison County had sev
eral chances to put the game
away in regulation, but didn’t
convert.
“In overtime, we had a
defensive miscue that allowed
Cedar through on goal, and
their forward put the chance
away,” said Mangan. “We
were hugely disappointed by
the result. We should have
beaten Cedar, but took the
game too lightly and were
punished for it.”
