Rotary constructs
ramp for Huff
Members of the Rotary Club of Madison Country gath
ered at the home of Palmer Huff to construct a handi
capped ramp April 3. Palmer is 95 years old, and is having
difficulty getting in and out of his house. He was bom in
Danielsville in 1916. Except for time spent in the U.S. Navy
as an aviation mechanic, he has lived his entire life in the
county. He was in the insurance business for a period of
time, but is probably better known to Madison County
residents as the president of the Bank of Danielsville
in the 1980s. He still lives in the two-story white house
across from the courthouse that he purchased over 30
years ago. The Rotarians constructed a 14-foot ramp
in short order. Workers included: Jerry Coutant, Jerry
Bond, Bob Padilla, Marvin White, Ruble Gray, and his two
grandsons, lyier and Chandler Gray, James Adams, Alton
Rowe, Roy Gandy, and his grandson Michael Steffel, Artry
Bishop, Tommy Lackey and Paul Tilton.
Rotarian of the Month
Pete Bond was named Madison County’s “Rotarian of
the Month” for March.
Lynn
Shelter’s Pet of the
Week is ‘Lynn’
The Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter’s featured Pet of the Week
is Lynn, a medium sized, one-year-old female Lab cross. Lynn was
surrendered to MOAS back in November as a stray from Madison
County.
'This sweet girl loves everyone she meets,” shelter officials said. Her
adoption fee is $50, which includes her up-to-date shots, spay and
microchip. "Can’t adopt?” officials said. “Please consider sponsoring
Lynn. For a $35 sponsorship Lynn will get to visit our low cost spay
and neuter clinic, making her available to attend offsite adoptions and
go home with her new loving family on the day of her adoption.” If
you are interested in adopting Lynn, stop by the shelter and meet

Spring forage meeting
set for Monday, April 23
The Madison County Cooperative Extension Service will offer a
“spring forage production meeting” April 23 at 7 p.m. at the Comer
Travelers’ Museum behind Comer City Hall.
Additional parking is located at local businesses and on E. North
Avenue.
A meal will be provided. Participants should register by April 16. Call

Ila VFD to hold barbecue
The Ila Volunteer Fire Department will host a chicken barbecue
Saturday, April 14,- 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 and plates include
1/2 BBQ chicken, slaw, applesauce, bread and BBQ sauce. Take out

Pediatric burn benefit
seeks donations
A benefit to raise funds for the Joseph M. Still Pediatric Bum Center
in Augusta, in honor of Ashton Samples, will be held on April 28. “We
are looking for donations of money, toys and baked goods to help us

Singles group to meet April 13
Forever Young Singles, a group for men and women ages 50 and up,
meets the second Friday of each month at 7 p.m. at Seersucker Socials,

Senior Center plant sale planned
The Madison County Senior Center will have its annual plant sale
April 18-20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Center’s greenhouse. There will
be houseplants, vegetable plants and flowers for sale. Call the senior

Gordon reunion set for April 15
The annual Gordon family reunion will be held Sunday, April 15, at the
Madison County Fairgrounds in Comer. Lunch will be served at 12:30
p.m. “Come and bring your favorite covered dishes and enjoy some
great fellowship," organizers said. “All paper products and ice will be

Outdoor gospel singing,
community fun day planned
There will be an outdoor gospel singing and community fun day at
Memorial Park in Danielsville on Saturday, April 14, 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Any business that would like to come out and set up a booth or table, or

singers will be Steve Pruitt, Paul Whitfield, Still Standing, The Hobsons
and Tommy and Linda Gurley.
Colbert July 4 th parade
to honor Vietnam vets
The City of Colbert announces this year’s July 4 th celebration,
which will be held on Wednesday, July 4 th , with the parade begin
ning at 9 a.m. Honor marshals will be Vietnam War veterans. Anyone
from Madison County who served in Vietnam is invited to ride in the
