Crime
Colbert Pharmacy robbed over holiday weekend
Numerous drugs were sto
len from Colbert Pharmacy
early Saturday morning, just
before the town's Indepen
dence Day festivities.
Deputy Bradley Osborne
was notified by dispatch that
a citizen noticed a broken
window at the pharmacy and
reported it to another dep
uty who was working the
parade.
Osborne went to the phar
macy where he noticed one
of the front windows broken
out as if someone tried to
get in.
He located not only broken
glass but a pill bottle lying
on the ground outside the
window and tried to obtain
fingerprints, but noted he
believed the suspect(s) to be
wearing gloves.
Osborne had dispatch noti
fy the owner who came with
his wife to the scene to look
for missing property.
The owner identified four
large bottles of Norco con
taining 1000 pills each, three
small bottles of Norco con
taining 100 pills each, nine
bottles of Opana contain
ing 60 pills each, one bot
tle of Percodan containing
100 pills and two bottles of
Viagra containing 30 pills
each missing from the phar
macy.
Surveillance footage
was reviewed and Osborne
could clearly see two people
wealing pants, long sleeves,
gloves and hats arrive at the
pharmacy around 2:38 a.m.
The footage was in black
and white, Osborne noted,
so it was hard to see if the
suspects were male, female
or identify their race. The
suspects walked around
scouting the place out for a
while with flashlights and
then Osborne could see one
suspect lay a piece of glass
on the ground outside the
window. The suspects left
the scene around 3:34 a.m.
carrying a bag that was sus
pected to contain the stolen
property. No vehicles were
seen pulling into the parking
spots that could be seen by
the cameras.
The alarm company was
called and they told the
owner that the only alarm
they received was a “low
battery” alarm around 2:22
a.m., about 16 minutes
before the suspects arrived.
In another incident, cruel
ty to children was reported
on Horace Reed Road. A
woman reported problems
with her grandchildren.
Deputy Adam Arnold met
with the grandmother who
said she has three grandchil
dren who live with parents
on Horace Reed Road. She
said she has numerous health
concerns about the children.
She went on to say the
5-year old was being kept
inside his bedroom for sev
eral hours with no use of a
restroom and has the room
to his door screwed shut
about 10 p.m. at night and
is locked in there until 12
p.m. the next day. She said
she has seen him with feces
on him.
The two females have
complained to her about not
having proper food to eat
and never being allowed to
leave their room during the
day.
Arnold then went to the
home to question the girls,
who are young teens. They
told him in the presence of
their mother that they are
the only ones who clean the
home and are required to
stay in their room for extend
ed periods. They said they
only have Ramen noodles
to eat and “do not get to
eat so their father has food
to eat.” Their brother was
locked inside his bedroom
with the door screwed shut
several times, they said, and
had been urinating and def
ecating inside the bedroom
due to not having access to
a restroom.
Due to the statements
made, Arnold contacted
DFCS about the informa
tion obtained from all three
witnesses and the case was
turned over to them.
Other incidents on file at
the sheriff’s office last week
included:
•Harassing phone calls
were reported on Mor
ris Creek Road last week.
Deputy Larry MacKay went
to the scene where he met
with a woman who said she
had been getting phone calls
from people saying they
were with the IRS.
She said she got one call
that day and told them to stop
calling her. She told the indi
vidual that she wanted off
their list. She had a recording
of the call on her phone. She
said that she was calling the
police and the caller alleged
ly told her that she should
wait or he would kill her.
He then made the statement
he would come and “#!#%
her upside down.” The caller
had a foreign accent and kept
her on the line repeating the
threats. She said that she has
gotten calls over several days
from different numbers. She
was advised not to answer
calls if she did not recog
nize the number. The deputy
attempted to do a reverse
look up of the number but
was unsuccessful.
•Multiple mailboxes were
reportedly extensively dam
aged last week on Jot-Em-
Down and Blacks Creek
Church Road.
•A woman on Peachtree
Street reported that her
three-week old Siberian
Husky puppy had been sto
len from her yard. She said
some neighborhood children
had been in her yard, but she
did not see them take the
puppy.
•A woman on Hwy. 98
reported that someone had
tried to come into her home.
Dispatch told deputy Joe
McGuffin that a male tried
to push open the door as she
was locking it and then left
in a vehicle.
The woman said she heard
her dog barking around 8:45
p.m. and looked outside to
see a black van in the parking
lot with a white female pas
senger with shoulder length
blonde hair and a white male
with black hair was driving.
She said she saw the man
approach the door and she
went to lock it, but as she
did he pushed on the door.
She pushed the door closed
and locked it and called her
husband. She said she could
hear the female saying some
thing to the male as she was
telling her husband what was
happening. She said that the
van backed up and “tore out”
of the driveway. She said
she put the several young
children in her residence into
a bedroom and locked it to
wait on her husband and law
enforcement. She said the
van was a dull black as if it
had been spray painted.
•An incident of road rage
was reported on Colbert
Danielsville Road last week.
On July 4, deputy Chad
Parr was flagged down at
the Bread Basket in Colbert
by a woman regarding an
incident of road rage that had
just occurred. The woman
said she was traveling down
Colbert Danielsville Road
when a blue Buick in front
of her started slamming on
his brakes. She said this con
tinued all the way to the red
light in Colbert on Hwy. 72.
She said when she stopped
for the red light, the older
white male driving the Buick
started cursing at her and the
others in her car. A passen
ger in her car agreed with her
testimony and said the old
man “flipped him off.”
He said when they stopped
at the Bread Basket, the blue
Buick also stopped and the
driver threw a water bottle
at him. The man stated the
Buick then started backing
up in his direction and he
jumped on the trunk try
ing to avoid being ran over.
When he did, his left knee
struck the back glass of the
vehicle causing it to shatter.
After the glass shattered, the
Buick left traveling on Hwy
72 toward Athens. No one in
the vehicle was able to get a
tag number. No contact was
made with the Buick. The
driver was described as a
white male, possibly in his
50s and bald.

In another arrest, Horace David
Williford, 50, of 1935 Hwy. 106
North, Danielsville, was charged
with criminal trespass following
an incident at his home last week.
Deputies were called to the
listed address in reference to a
domestic dispute. Deputy Joe
McGuffin arrived and was met
by Williford at the door. He asked
McGuffin inside and he followed
him into the kitchen where a
woman was. He stated he was
arrested the last time. McGuffin
asked what the problem was and
he pointed at the woman saying
“this."
McGuffin told him he did not
understand why officers were
called and he started laughing and
told him that she would not leave
him alone. About this time Sgt.
Doug Martin arrived and start
ed speaking with Williford. The
woman stated that he had been
drinking and was on probation.
She said he was verbally abusive
towards her and started telling me
things he had done in the past. I
asked why we were there and she
said “he called."
McGuffin asked what they
could do to help and she said
to take Williford to some type
shelter, and that he had been there
a short time. She added that they
live together, but are not married.
McGuffin could hear Williford
getting loud with Martin and
heard him tell him that he had
“beat her @$$ the last time”.
He began telling deputies that
she was “mental” and laugh
ing. He said again how she was
running her mouth the last time
and he beat her up. He denied
drinking anything but agreed to
take an ALCO-sensor test, which
showed that he had. When told he
had lied to officer he responded to
take him to jail. The woman said
he broke a glass bowl and two
plastic containers. Williford then
stood up and backed up to Sgt.
