Cancer Foundation set to give $ 1 million
in financial assistance to NE Ga patients
Local nonprofit, The Cancer Foundation
(TCF), is expected to pay for one million
dollars in basic living expenses for local
cancer patients by the end of 2016.
TCF is the only nonprofit in the eastern
United States that pays for patient housing,
utilities, medication, food, and transporta
tion. In Madison County, TCF has helped
over 159 cancer patients with more than
$78,000 in financial assistance,
“Our mission is unique and we are proud
to say we have never denied a patient who
qualifies for financial assistance,” said TCF
executive director, Kimberly Liebowitz.
“Recently, we interviewed Robert Bielicki,
a Madison County resident who is also a
prostate cancer patient and he said, ‘I don’t
want to exaggerate but my stress was 10+.
Even with gas prices coming down, it’s
still very expensive going back and forth.
Taking away that stress can only help my
health. It has meant so much.’”
The Cancer Foundation kicked off its
“March to a Million” endowment campaign
June 16. This campaign will be a match
campaign endeavor to raise a million dol
lars to help TCF continue to provide access
to treatment and a hope for healing.

Arson hotline offered
Insurance and fire commissioner Ralph
Hudgens wants to remind Georgians that the
state has a toll-free arson hotline, 1-800-282-
5804, sponsored by his office and the Georgia
Arson Control Program.
Callers to the hotline will be eligible for
rewards of up to $10,000 if they provide infor
mation leading to the arrest and conviction of
an arsonist. According to Hudgens, callers
and reward recipients may choose to remain
anonymous.
“We want to remind Georgians of this incen
tive to report any information they may have
about a suspicious fire,” said Hudgens. “In
many cases, investigators rely on evidence
provided by witnesses to convict an arsonist.”
Since its inception in 1979, the Georgia
Arson Control Board has approved 560
rewards totaling $1,617,850. The average
reward paid is $2,889.
Cancer society offers toll-free
number for information
The American Cancer Society believes that
no one should have to face cancer alone.
That’s why it offers its toll-free number,
1-800-227-2345,24 hours a day. seven days a
week, 365 days a year, to provide information
and guidance for cancer patients and their
families and caregivers.
When patients call the society’s toll-free
number, they always are greeted by a trained
specialist who can answer questions about
cancer, provide links to clinical trials, offer
information on available resources in a
patient’s community and more.
American Cancer Society Call Center’s
staff members field more than 1 million
calls a year, providing general information
on cancer, helping cancer patients and
their caregivers find community resources
to assist them and answering questions
on issues ranging from transportation to
and from treatment to health insurance.
Cancer patients, their families and caregivers,
or anyone seeking information on cancer,
are encouraged to call the American Cancer
Society’s toll-free number. 1-800-227-2345.
