Mentor program holds share session
Madison County mentors
celebrated the end of anoth
er school term May 26 with
Mentor Share Session.
“The theme and decor
for the event was ‘Starfish
Flingers' since these men
tors are making a difference
one student at a time just as
the flingers make a differ
ence one starfish at a time in
the legend,” mentor leaders
said.
Mentors Jane Fitzpatrick
and Melanie Berryman wel
comed the mentor guests to
the event. Mentor Christy
Flanson directed guests to
food tables.
Madison County Middle
School counselor and
mentor Teddi Graycheck
facilitated a whole-group
discussion where mentors
shared ideas and experi
ences, asked questions,
offered suggestions, and
gave encouragement to
each other. Additionally, the
mentors received door priz
es, viewed a slideshow, and
listened to music provided
by mentor pianist Rachele
Windham-Alexander.
Special recognition (cer
tificates and gifts) was given
to five mentors (Joan Baird,
Melanie Berryman. Nancy
Bridges, Amy Denman, and
Pam Hall) who had grad
uating student mentees.
Earlier, at the high school,
their graduating mentees
received their certificates
and gifts. Also, five mentors
who have been a part of the
Madison County Mentor
Program since its first year
(1998) were recognized
with certificates and gifts:
Nancy Bridges, Beth Coker,
Gerald Coutant, Joyce
Duncan and Mirian Tiller.
Additional thanks were
given to the three Mentor
Program sponsor repre
sentatives: mentor Allen
McCannon, School System;
mentor Ryan Melton,
Family Connection; and
Marvin White, Chamber;
and to the school counselors
who work with the mentors:
mentor Monica Allen, men
tor Teddi Graycheck, Tracy
Hebenton, Tonya Hill, Lynn
Joyner. Dana Prickett and
mentor Tara Thomas.
For at least two hours
each month during the
2015/2016 school year, over
200 adult volunteer mentor
friends met with their stu
dent mentees to encourage
them to stay in school and
continue to work toward
graduation.
“We appreciate our men
tors who selflessly give of
their time to bless the life of
their student mentees.” said
mentor program director
Shirley Aaron. “They are
truly molding the citizens
of tomorrow as they make
a difference one student at
a time.”
Aaron added that there is
a continuing need for more
mentors and that infor
mation about the ease of
becoming and being a men
tor can be received by con
tacting her at mcmentor@
madison.kl2.ga.us or 706-
338-3689.
Mentor Melanie Berryman is recognized for encour
aging her student mentee to graduate this term.
(L-R) Mentors Teddi Traycheck, Donna Colquett, Joanna Bost, and Susie Andrews get door prizes from Shirley
Aaron (center).
Prospective mentor Marta Garland learns from men
tors Barbara McCurley, Jennifer Adams and Loren
Metts.
Sponsor representative and mentor Ryan Melton
receives a certificate and a gift in appreciation for
his support of the Mentor Program.
