Charles Bentley, Sr.
SAINT MARYS — Charles Bentley, Sr., 92, St.
Marys, gained his wings November 13,2019.
Mr. Bentley was born
March 22, 1927 in Jeffer
son, to Jiles Santford and
Bertha Rea Standridge
Bentley, who preceded
him in death. He was pre
deceased by a sister, Doris
Whitlock. He graduated
from Martin Institute in
Jefferson in 1945. Mr.
Bentley resided in Wind
er from 1954 until 2015.
He was a proud United
States Army Veteran hav
ing served from 1950 until 1952. Mr. Bentley was a
retired machinist with Customized Equipment. He also
worked at Rohr' Aircraft for many years.
Surviving are wife, Helen Graf Bentley, St. Marys;
daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Hoke Stephens,
Woodbine; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Jr. and
Pam Bentley, Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren;
and 11 great-grandchildren.
Family to receive visitors: Monday, November 18,
2019, from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral service: Monday, November 18, 2019, at
11 a.m. from the chapel of Carter Funeral Home. Inter
ment with Military Honors will be in Barrow Memorial
Gardens.

Davy Lee “Bugg” Brock
STATHAM — Davy Fee “Bugg” Brock, 51, Statham,
passed away November 13, 2019.
He was born April 15,
1968 to the late Harry Fee
and Penny Guffey Brock
in Athens. Mr. Brock was
a mechanic with Athens
Stone Casting. He was a

graduate, Class of 1986.

Shirley Easter “Esther” Buckley-Kane
COMMERCE — Shirley Easter “Esther” Buck
ley-Kane, 84, Commerce, passed away at her daughter’s
residence on Friday, November 15,2019 at 9:53 a.m.
She was bom October
4, 1935 in Bonaire. Shir
ley retired from Phoe
nix Printing Company
in Doraville, where she
worked for 30 year's.
Ms. Kane was a faithful
member of Grove Fevel
in Maysville, where she
loved singing and wor
shipping her Ford in the
choir and looked forward
to serving the kids at Bi
ble Time every summer.
She loved the Ford with all her heart, and loved her
family and friends. She loved serving others, especially
her children, and loved singing and dancing. She gradu
ated from West Fulton High in Atlanta in 1956.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Webster Je
rome Rumph and Faur a Bell Rumph; her brothers, Har
old Rumph and John “Buddy” Rumph; and sister Mary
Jean Adams.
Memorial service: Saturday, November 23, 2019 at
5 p.m. at Fawson Funeral Home Chapel. Russell John
son will be officiating.
Family to receive friends: Saturday, November 23,
2019, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Mae Nelms Compton
Elizabeth Mae Nelms Compton, beloved mother, sis
ter, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-
grandmother passed away on Wednesday, November
13, 2019 at the age of 99.
Bom in Comer, she was a daughter of the late George
Dewey Nelms and Jessie Fee Fanders Nelms. Mrs.
Compton was a former member of the Pilot Club and
a longtime member of Meadow Baptist Church. In ad
dition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, James Rufus Compton and five siblings, Ev
elyn Bennett, Wilda Nelms, Randolph Nelms, Walter
Nelms and Dewey Nelms.
Survivors include three daughters and their hus
bands, Deborah Compton Carey (Ross), Donna Comp
ton Maxwell (Terry) and Daphne Compton Faulkner
(Greg); three siblings, Barbara Jean Carrington, How
ell Nelms and Fanier Nelms; five grandchildren, Chris
topher Carey (Jeannie), Kimberly Fangley (Timothy),
Tara Maxwell, Tami Ruff (Kyle) and Todd Maxwell;
12 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren;
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service: Sunday, November 17, 2019, at
2 p.m. at Ford and Stephens, Danielsville, with the
Rev. Mike Sama officiating. Interment will follow in
the Meadow Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pall
bearers will be Charlie Compton, Anthony Nelms, Bill
Nelms, Doug Bennett, Dennis Wood and Glenn Wood
and one honorary pallbearer, Charles Booth.

Truman Wayne Craig, Sr.
COFBERT — Truman Wayne Craig, Sr., 72, Col
bert, passed away peacefully in the early morning of
November 16,2019, surrounded by family. Wayne had
battled cancer for four years and four months with dig
nity, courage and strength.
In addition to his parents, Richard F. and Velma Hall
Craig, he was preceded in death by a sister, Miriam
Craig Dove; and brothers, Robert Eugene Craig and
Grover Fee Craig.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judy
Suddeth Craig; son, Wayne Craig Jr. and daughter
-in-law Kelly; two grandsons. Chase Craig and Car-
son Craig; sister, Judy D. Craig; brothers, Jody Craig
(Terri), Danny Craig and Jerry Craig; sisters-in-law,
Carolyn Graff (Paul), and Barbara Chandler (Famar);
brother-in-law, Roger Suddeth (Kaye); and nieces;
nephews; and cousins.
Family to receive friends: Tuesday, November 19,
2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Ford & Stephens Funeral Home,
Danielsville.

Lois Jean Biffle Whitener Edwards
COMMERCE — Fois Jean Biffle Whitener Ed
wards, 89, Commerce, died Thursday, November 14,
2019 at her residence.
Mrs. Edwards was bom in Washington to the late
John Bryant and Frances Holland Biffle. In addition to
her parents, Mrs. Edwards was also preceded in death
by her first husband, Milton Slaton Whitener; second
husband, David Fitzgerald Edwards; son, David An
drew Whitener; and grandson, Thomas ONeal Perdue.
Mrs. Edwards was retired from Craven’s Pottery.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Com
merce, member of the Harmony Grove Garden Club,
and a lifetime member of the American Hemerocallis
Society since 1974. She was also the past president of
the North Wilkes County Stem committee; she won
the governor’s award for beautification program for
Tignall. She was a show judge and also showed daylil-
ies in the daylily society.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by her son, Milton Daniel
Whitener (Alice), Danielsville; four granddaughters,
Kelli, Tammy, Patti and Bianca; four grandsons, Da
vid, Mack, Dale and Keilan; 24 great-grandchildren;
and 37 great-great- grandchildren.
Funeral service: Saturday, November 16, 2019, at
10 a.m. from the chapel of Fittle-Ward Funeral Home
with Dr. Carlton Allen officiating.
Second funeral service: Saturday, November 16,
2019, at 2 p.m. at the Independence United Method
ist Church in Tignall with the Rev. Harold Fawrence
officiating with the intemient following in the church
cemetery.

2019, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The gentle
men honored to serve as pallbearers are Noah Hoo-

COMER — Max Aaron Hand, Comer, passed away
Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the age of 62.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and
Ella Faye Hand; brothers, Alex, Albert and Richard;
and sisters, Bonnie and Kathy.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff
and Ashley Hand; grandchildren, Brandon and Chasi-
ty; and girlfriend, Sandra Hunt.

Terry Michael Jordan
COMER — Terry Michael Jordan, 59, Comer,
passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday,
November 15, 2019, following a brief battle with
MDS blood cancer.
Terry was the son of the late Odis Jordan Jr. and Jean
Faulkner Jordan of Athens.
Terry is survived by his sisters, Sheree Jordan Pas-
trick and husband Raleigh, Jefferson and Tamara
Jordan and partner Bonnie Buchanan, Athens; two
nieces, Courtney Carlan Murphy, Homer, and Cayla
Carlan Dunn, Commerce; two great- nephews, Au
brey Carlan and Trey Murphy; and one great-niece,
Cambria Coley.
For the past 40 years Terry was a hairstylist in the
Athens area. He spent the last 18 years at Headgames
Hair Salon in Danielsville. Terry enjoyed the outdoors
and was gifted at turning “trash into treasures.”
The family is at the residence.

18,2019, beginning at 2 p.m. at Danielsville Evangel
ical Church.
