Obituaries
John "Jack” Carl Colvin
John “Jack” Carl Colvin, 73, passed away Thursday, No
vember 14, 2019 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta,
following a brief battle with cancer and a lifelong battle with
heart disease.
He leaves his wife of 45
years, Constance (Sahm)
Colvin; sons Deven Crane
and Sean Colvin and wife
April; daughter Sara Colvin;
sisters Donna Vanscoy and
Sandee Buell; grandchildren
Alyssa, Raistlin, Arowynn,
Adeiron, Skye Colvin-Flow-
ers; and a host of other rel
atives.
Bom and raised in Syra
cuse, N.Y., the son of Cath
erine and Earl Colvin, he
was a lifelong resident of Syracuse. After graduating from
Jordan Elbridge High School in 1964 where he was voted
“Most Talkative” and “Best Dancer,” he joined the United
States Air Force and was stationed in Kansas, Wyoming,
Mississippi and several other assignments.
He met his wife, Constance Sahm, in Syracuse and they
were married in 1974 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Cicero, N.Y. Using skills and knowledge he learned serving
with the Air Force, Mr. Colvin worked for General Electric
in Turkey and Alaska and then Anaren Microwave in Syra
cuse, a leading global designer of high-frequency RF and
microelectronics for aerospace and defense application. He
not only took pride in his work, but retained perfect atten
dance status up until he was forced to retire in 1998 due to a
diagnosis of cardiomyopathy.
In 1999 at the age of 53, Mr. Colvin was the recipient of
a heart transplant at the Hospital of the University of Penn
sylvania and lived to be in the top 13 th percentile of heart
transplant survivors. Mr. Colvin had a passion for Syracuse
University sports. For over 30 years, he would volunteer his
time to usher at the Syracuse Carrier Dome, earning him
local celebrity status as “The Syracuse Dancing Usher”
while he led his section in dances such as the YMCA during
games.
Mr. Colvin moved with his wife Connie to Jefferson, in
2014 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In his
retirement he enjoyed golfing, playing trivia with friends,
spending time with his family and, of course, Syracuse foot
ball and basketball.
Memorial mass: Monday, November 25,2019 at 2 p.m. at
St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Jefferson.

Charles Louis Dennis, Jr.
HOMER — Charles Louis Dennis, Jr., 61, Homer, en
tered into rest Friday, November 15, 2019.
Mr. Dennis was bom
in Atlanta, the son of the
late Charles Louis Dennis
Sr. and the late Betty Sue
Massey Langford.
Survivors include two
daughters, Jessica Richard
son and her husband Lee,
Jefferson, and Jenni Espina
and her husband Ronnie,
Jefferson; two grandchil
dren, Lola Richardson and
Tinsley Espina; along with
brothers; several aunts; un
cles; and cousins.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later

Joseph Lawton Estes, Jr.
WINDER — Joseph Lawton Estes, Jr., 96, Winder, passed
away peacefully on Monday, November 18,2019 at Magno
lia Estates of Winder.
Mr. Estes was a member
of the Winder First Baptist
Church, Winder First Unit
ed Methodist Church, and
most recently, after retire
ment, the Gainesville First
United Methodist Church.
He was the founder of Es
tes Insurance Agency which
is now operated as Winder
Insurance Center. Mr. Estes
will be best remembered
as a man who cared deeply
for both his family and this
community.
Mr. Estes is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Jacobs
Estes; daughter, Lynn Estes Cain; parents, Joseph Lawton
Estes Sr. and Thelma Woodruff Estes; and sister, Joyce Estes
Burton.
Mr. Estes is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Della Es
tes, Winder; six grandchildren, Melanie Cain Couch, Cath
erine Cain Martin, Russell Estes Shepley, Nathan Eavenson
Shepley, Collin Niles Shepley and Myles Fielding Shepley;
and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Per the request of the family, a private memorial service
will be held at a later date.

Marion Obie Faulkner
MAYSVILLE — Marion Obie Faulkner, 72, Mays-
ville, passed away Friday, November 22,2019.
He was the son of the
late Parks and Jean Ayers
Faulkner and a retied ma
chinist. He was a veteran
of the United States Ait-
Force.
Survivors include his
wife , Bonnie S. Faulkner,
of the home; son Scott
Faulkner, Cape Canaver
al, Fla.; brother, Bill Hill,
Atlanta; three sisters, Jen

Mr. Faulkner was preceded in death by a son, Chad
Faulkner.

Frances Cheatham Fowler
DANIELSVILLE — Frances Cheatham Fowler, 85,
Danielsville, passed away on Friday, November 22,2019,
at Brown Health and Rehabilitation Center in Royston.
Mrs. Fowler was bom
in Commerce on Janu
ary 26, 1934, daughter of
the late Thurmon Thomas
Cheatham and the late Lucy
Faye McCurdy Cheatham.
She was a homemaker and
a member of the Daniels
ville Evangelical Church.
In addition to her par
ents, she was preceded
in death by her daughter,
Terri Lynn Fowler; broth
ers, Crawford Cheatham,
Delos Cheatham and Billy Cheatham; and sister, Floye
Burroughs.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Gary Fowl
er; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Marie Fowler,
Danielsville; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Lee
Sexton, Danielsville; grandchildren, Jennifer Doster,
Amy Hatala, Taylor Sexton and Jeffrey Sexton; three
great-grandchildren; and her cat, Precious.

Sara L. Greer
COLBERT — Sara L. Greer, 96, Colbert, passed away
on Tuesday, November 19,2019.
Bom in Danielsville, Mrs. Greer was a daughter of the
late Howard Jones and Ophelia Morris Jones. She was a
longtime member of Ila Baptist Church. In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Kirby Allen Greer; and four siblings, Morris Jones, Har
old Jones, Faye Jones Vandiver and Betty Jones.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Doolittle, Col
bert; step-son, Jason Greer, McDonough; brother, Alfred
Jones, Tallapoosa; and numerous nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Funeral service: Sunday, November 24,2019, at 2 p.m.
at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville. Interment will follow
at Danielsville Memorial Gardens.

Emberlee Addilyn Humphries
COMMERCE — Emberlee Addilyn Humphries,
six-month-old daughter of Nicole Humphries and
Mercedes Triplett, Commerce, died Thursday, No
vember 21, 2019 at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Clif
ford Triplett.
In addition to her parents, Emberlee is survived
by her grandparents, Dawn Triplett and Billy and
Summer Humphries; aunts and uncles, Zachary
Humphries (Rebecca), Devin Humphries (Hannah),
Truman Triplett, Autumn Humphries, Alexus Hum
phries, Kendra Humphries and Andrew Humphries.
Funeral service: Monday, November 25, 2019, at
2 p.m. at the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home
with the Rev. Cecil Pritchett officiating. Interment
will follow in Hoschton City Cemetery.

LOGANVILLE — Robert J. “Rusty” Johnston, Jr.,
55, Loganville, passed away on Sunday, November
17, 2019.
He was bom on Octo
ber 13,1964
He is survived by his
wife, Laurie A. Johnston;
parents Robert J. John
ston Sr. (Helen John
ston), and Linda L. Mar
tin (Kenneth Martin);
sibling, Robin Buschell;
step-children, Billy and
Kayla Bonner; grand
children, Trey, Kasey and
Isabell Bonner; nephews,
Chad and Jeremy Buschell; and niece, Kaylee Bus
chell Frantz.
He graduated from Lithonia High School. He was
a member of Lifepoint Community Church in Logan
ville, and sang on the praise team. He was loved so
much by so many and will forever be missed.
He was a loving and kind family man and friend
that was so loved. Rusty worked for Southeastern
Casework in Braselton, and loved the Dallas Cow
boys, frisbee and singing.

23, 2019, at 4 p.m. at Lifepoint Community Church,
3625 Brookview Dr., Loganville, Ga., 30052.

WINDER — Betty Ogle Maynard, 90, Winder,
passed away November 18, 2019.
A native of Hall Coun
ty, she was bom May 10,
1929 to Hoyt and Allene
Williams Ogle who pre
ceded her. Betty was the
widow of Ben Maynard
Sr., who died in 2003.
She had lived in Wind
er since 2000, and was
a former Doraville resi
dent.

Robert M. (Lynn) Maynard, Gainesville; grandchil
dren, Rebecca Marchman (Alec) Richardson, Buford,

lissa (Paul) Akins, Cleveland, Kelli Maynard and Jen
nifer Zuares, both of Gainesville; beloved caregiver,
