Man charged with child molestation, statutory rape
A Danielsville man was
arrested on outstanding war
rants for child molestation
after he damaged a mailbox
and ran into a ditch on Han
nah Creek Church Road last
weekend.
Samuel Art Chandler. 22,
was charged with child mo
lestation, felony statutory
rape, duty upon striking fix
ture. failure to drive within a
single lane, hit and run, and
too fast for conditions.
Captain Jimmy Patton said
the molestation warrants
were issued recently stem
ming from a Georgia Bu
reau of Investigation (GBI)
investigation that began in
April. Patton said agents had
picked up on an alleged re
lationship with a child under
the age of 16 through social
media posts. Patton said the
juvenile was also lived in
Madison County.
Deputy Joshua Smith was
dispatched to Hannah Creek
Church Road on Nov. 24 re
garding a damaged mailbox
and a suspicious vehicle.
The resident met him at the
damaged mailbox and Smith
saw skid marks on the road
leading to where the mailbox
had been located and muddy
tire tracks led along the ditch
line to a black Ford Focus
parked a short distance away.
The car was traced to
Chandler, who had two out
standing felony warrants
out of Madison County.
Sgt. Greg Bryson located
SAMUEL ART
CHANDLER
Chandler at his home and
took him into custody on the
outstanding warrants. Smith
met them at the jail and is
sued the warrants for the
traffic violations.
In another arrest, a home
less man, Kevin Joseph Ben
nett, 32, was charged with
second degree felony bur
glary after he broke into a
church daycare center, stole
some things and then went to
sleep. Corporal Zach Brooks
was dispatched to Trinity
Baptist Church on Hwy.
29 North after Bennett was
found inside the church gym
when it was opened for day
care that day.
An employee said when
they opened the gym to
get ready for daycare, they
found Bennett in an equip
ment room sleeping. He and
other employees stated the
gym was closed all night
and no one should have been
there.
They also had camera
footage from a Ring Door
Bell of Bennett trying to
get in the front door of the
church at about 1 a.m. There
was no damage to the doors
on the gym and they didn’t
know how he got inside.
Bennett had also taken
several water bottles, Lit
tle Debbie cakes and coffee
from the gym.
They initially stated
they did not want Bennett
charged, but did not want
him back on the property.
While Brooks was getting
Bennett’s information, dis
patch informed him that he
had an outstanding warrant
from Elbert County.
Church employees then
told him that they found
more of Bennett’s belong
ings in the trash can and had
also found where he had been
smoking inside and throw
ing his cigarette butts in the
trash. Brooks then found an
old backpack and a jacket in
the trash. They then watched
the camera footage again
and saw that Bennett had the
backpack on his back when
he was trying to break in and
discovered that the comput
er bag he now had belonged
to one of the employees. At
that point, the complainants
decided they did want him to
be charged.

Athens woman charged with aggravated assault
An Athens woman was ar
rested for aggravated assault
last week.
Zakira Lache Allen, 20,
Athens, was charged with
three counts of aggravat
ed assault by Deputy Tracy
Rucker following an accident
on Hwy. 172 at Goss Road.
When Rucker arrived at
the scene, a man there told
him that “his girlfriend (Al
len) almost killed him and
his friends.”
He said that he and Al
len and two friends were on
their way to Hartwell to go to
work, when during the drive
he and Allen got into a heat
ed argument. She allegedly
grabbed the steering wheel
and yanked it to the right
causing it to leave the road
and he had to maneuver the
car back onto the road.
He said at that point he
stopped the car and ordered
Allen to get out. then got out
and pulled her out of the car.
He said the two began to
tussle outside the car and Al
len pepper sprayed him. He
said he got back in the car
to try to “get his wits” about
him when he felt Allen pull
the lever to pop the hunk
open. He said he just put the
car in drive and went up the
road to a safe area before
calling 911 call. Rucker not
ed there were front passenger

side damages to the car.
In another incident, Ellen
Elizabeth Colton-Norvei-
sas, 50, of Danielsville, was
charged with criminal tres
pass.
Deputy Duston Stanley
was dispatched to a home on
Colbert-Danielsville Road
regarding Colton-Norveisas
trespassing on the property
The resident said she had
been there but left before
Stanley got there. He said she
showed up and started beat
ing on the door and when
he opened it she told him
to just give her five minutes
of his time, then asked for a
cigarette. He said he told her
he had to leave and he called
911.
Stanley then went to a
nearby residence where he
knew Colton-Norveisas had
been staying. When he ar
rived he found the door wide
open and a glass door had
been shattered with glass ev
erywhere.
He also noted that a car
parked by the door had its
back glass broken out with a
brick laying in the backseat.
He went inside, identifying
himself as law enforcement,
and found Colton-Norveisas
lying on the floor. She told
him she had been asleep. She
said she knew she was not
supposed to be at the other
residence but still went over
there anyway for “just a min
ute.”
When Stanley asked about
the door being shattered and
wide open to the house she
informed him she had no
idea why it was like that. He
then asked her about the car
window being broke out and
she told him she did not do
that either. Two males who
were also in the house also
said they had no idea what
happened.
She was arrested on the
trespassing after she had
been told to stay away from
the other residence.
Other incidents on file at
the sheriff’s office this week
included:
•Pansy Marie Cowart, 44,
homeless, was charged with
crossing state/county guard
lines with weapons, intoxi
cants, drugs without consent,
marijuana possession less
than an ounce, possession
and use of drug-related ob
jects. possession of metham-
phetamine with intent to dis
tribute. willful obstruction of
law enforcement officers and
theft by shoplifting. Deputy
Gabe Dalton was dispatched
to the Dollar General on
Hanley Road regarding a
woman shoplifting.
She (Cowart) had left in
a gray Dodge Caravan and
traveled east on Moon’s
Grove Church Road and the
complainant said they be
lieved she was traveling to
Car Quest in Danielsville.
Dalton noted he was famil
iar with Cowart and knew her
to have received a criminal
trespass warning from Cor
poral Joshua Smith the day
before for shoplifting at the
Family Dollar store in Hull.
She was pulled over in a
traffic stop and Dalton went
to interview her. She denied
taking anything from the
store. A Dollar General bag
was laying on the passenger
seat. She kept her right hand
in the floor area to the right
of her seat and refused to
show her hand or to get out
despite being told five times
to do so before she did. She
informed Dalton that he was
not going to search her vehi
cle and attempted to get back
inside. She was arrested at
that point for obstruction.
Sergeant Greg Bryson
travelled to the Dollar Gener
al on Hanley Road and con
firmed that a green in color
Flexi Torch lighter ( valued at
$5) had been taken. A lighter
matching that was found in
Cowart’s purse and appeared
to be new. The van was found
to have hypodermic needles,
drugs and other drug para
phernalia inside.
•James Kirby Haley Jr.,
33, of Colbert, was charged
with felony theft by receiv
ing stolen property, willful
obstruction of officers and
two counts of probation vi
olation.
Cpl. Zach Brooks returned
to Merry Lane to follow up
on a theft report he had taken
earlier in the shift when he
was informed that the sus
pect in the case (Haley ) was
back at the location.
He made contact with the
complainant in the theft case
who said that Haley was in a
camper in the woods.
Brooks and another officer
walked over to the camper
and made contact with Ha
ley’s mother and girlfriend.
They said Haley was there
but had left when he saw the
patrol cars. While they were
checking the woods around
the camper they found a
Arson hotline offered
The office of the Insurance and fire
commissioner reminds Georgians that the
state has a toll-free arson hotline, 1-800-
282-5804, sponsored by the office and the
Georgia Arson Control Program.
Callers to the hotline will be eligible for
rewards of up to $10,000 if they provide in
formation leading to the arrest and convic
tion of an arsonist. Callers and reward re
cipients may choose to remain anonymous.
“We want to remind Georgians of this in
centive to report any information they may
have about a suspicious fire,” said officials.
“In many cases, investigators rely on evi
dence provided by witnesses to convict an
arsonist.”

GRATITUDE ATTITUDE!
- Our fantastic third and fourth
grade students presented a spe
cial Thanksgiving program at
ACS this past week. In addition
to learning more about Squan-
to and the Pilgrims, we heard
many songs and Bible verses
that put us in a spirit of worship
and reminded us why we cele
brate this wonderful holiday in
the USA.
One of the songs was called
“Gratitude Attitude” As I lis
tened, it made me think of
a quote attributed to the late
John Wooden: “If we magni
fied blessings as much as we
magnify disappointments, we
would all be much happier.”
This Thanksgiving, I hope you
will be able to magnify the great
blessings that God has brought
into your life.
