JANUARY 2, 2020 Church •Gordon’s Chapel UMC, Hull, will hold its monthly food giveaway and clothes closet on the following Fridays in 2020, from 9 to 10 a.m. The dates are Jan. 17, Feb. 21, March 20, Apr. 17, May 15, June 19, July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 18, Oct. 16, Nov. 20 and Dec. 18. “These food giveaways and clothes giveaways are held for those who are in need of food for their immediate family,” church leaders said. “Please note that all food and clothes distributions are on a first come, first serve basis and that it is ful ly funded by Gordon’s Chapel UMC. For food distribution, Gordon’s Chapel works in coordination with the NEGA Food Bank.” The food bank is held at the Sanford Community Center, 6495 Nowhere Road and the clothes closet is held in the green building next to the community center. •Moon’s Grove Baptist Church, 1985 Moon’s Grove Church Road, Col bert, distributes free food and clothes to those in need on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. The dates for 2020 are Jan. 22, Feb. 26, March 25, April 22, May 27, June 24, July 22, Aug. 26, Sept. 23, Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16. Anyone in need of food living in Colbert, Comer, Hull, Ila, Danielsville, Carlton, or Winterville is welcome, organizers said. The church is located at 65 N. Second Street behind First Madison Bank. Orga nizers say all ministers are invited to join them as they discuss ways to minister to the people of Madison County. Pilot Club of Madison County to host 'Princess and Pirate Party’Jan. 25 The Pilot Club of Mad ison County invites the public to "put on your Princess dresses and Pirate duds along with your kids or grandkids” and attend a “Princess and Pirate Party” Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Dan ielsville Elementary School cafeteria from 10 a.m. to noon. A princess castle back drop is being created by the Madison County Middle School Art Department and a pirate ship has been creat ed by the Madison County Anchor Club. Characters will be present for photo op portunities. “We encourage attendees to bring their cameras,” or ganizers said. Activity stations for kids will include face painting, nail painting, treasure hunt ing, a treasure chest, corn- hole. "Frozen” karaoke, tat toos/stickers, coloring and a book station. Small gift trinkets will be given. Re freshments will be provided for all kids. Tickets are $10 per per son. This fundraising event will help support Pilot Club service projects for the com munity as well as support the Anchor Club of Madison County High School with their club activities. VISITING UGA Second through fifth graders at Hull-Sanford Elementary School recently en joyed an “Accelerated Reader Reward” field trip. Students who met their second quarter accelerated reader goals were treated to a movie, a tour of the Ramsey Sports Complex at the University of Georgia and a special tour of the UGA foot ball stadium which included a tour of the new player locker room and a chance to get on the field. Pictured are Khloe Batts, Alyssa Gillespie and Tylar Lumpkin. Ward named to President’s List at Young Harris Colbert’s Trudy Ward, a freshman at a 4.0 average. Ward is a public policy major Young Harris College, was named to the who serves on the student conduct board at President’s List for the fall 2019 semester. Young Harris College, She plays oboe in the Students named to this list must maintain concert band and piccolo in the pep band. HULL-SANFORD SPELLING BEE WINNERS Hull-Sanford Elementary School recently held its annual spelling bee.
