JANUARY 2, 2020 MAINSTREET NEWSPAPERS' ALL-AREA FOOTBALL TEAM PLAYER OF THE YEAR Colby Clark, Sr. Jefferson Quarterback The Dragons' senior quarterback spearheaded Jefferson's triple option offense, running for 1,083 yards and 24 touchdowns and throwing for 563 yards and nine touchdowns. He had a quarterback rating of 119.4. Clark closed his career with a 24-6 record as the Dragons' starting quarterback. Clark was named the Region 8-AAA Player of the Year this season and has been invited to play in multiple postseason all-star games. COACH OF THE YEAR Chris Smith Madison Co. Smith guided his alma mater to its first-ever state quarterfinals ap pearance in its 63-year history. The Red Raiders went 4-6 during the regular season but caught fire in the state playoffs, beating Ridgeland and May Persons to advance to the round of eight where they lost to Sandy Creek.
