Mustangs blaze
past Rabun, 40-6
The Madison County Middle School continued its winning
ways on the gridiron last week, whipping Rabun County at
home, 40-6.
“This was a good win at home for us,” said Mustang head
coach Josh Callicutt, whose team improved to 3-0. “We have
been on the road for the past two weeks and it was good to
play an actual game inside the newly updated Red Raider
Stadium. We also got to see some good things out of our
younger guys in the second half.”
The Mustangs rolled up the rushing yards once again, tally
ing 272 yards on the ground, with many coming on lengthy
runs, with its top four rushers gaining 259 yards and four
touchdowns on just 10 carries.
Deshun Brown led the way with 94 yards and a touch
down on just two carries. Brayden Clark had 63 yards and a
touchdown on four carries. Will Kettle ran once for a 62-yard
touchdown, while Matthew Strickland ran three times for 40
yards and a touchdown.
Garrett Smith led the way on defense with seven tackles.
Max Miller had five tackles. Bradley Wallace finished with
four tackles and a forced fumble. JT Fowler had three tack
les. Strickland had two tackles and an interception returned
for a touchdown. Cason Hillsman had a fumble recovery and
Brayden Clark had an interception.
Callicutt noted that his undefeated team has a lot left to
play for.
“ We had a lot of expectations riding on this season, and
this is a pleasant surprise,” he said. “We are going to be
competing in the region for the #1 seed going into the play
offs if we handle our business in the coming weeks. Elbert,
Stephens and Habersham all are good football programs and
we will have our work cut out for us. I think we all look for
ward to bringing the road to the championship through Red
Raider Stadium.”
Madison County is scheduled to host Elbert County Sept.
