SEPTEMBER 23. 2021 Mustangs blaze past Rabun, 40-6 The Madison County Middle School continued its winning ways on the gridiron last week, whipping Rabun County at home, 40-6. “This was a good win at home for us,” said Mustang head coach Josh Callicutt, whose team improved to 3-0. “We have been on the road for the past two weeks and it was good to play an actual game inside the newly updated Red Raider Stadium. We also got to see some good things out of our younger guys in the second half.” The Mustangs rolled up the rushing yards once again, tally ing 272 yards on the ground, with many coming on lengthy runs, with its top four rushers gaining 259 yards and four touchdowns on just 10 carries. Deshun Brown led the way with 94 yards and a touch down on just two carries. Brayden Clark had 63 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Will Kettle ran once for a 62-yard touchdown, while Matthew Strickland ran three times for 40 yards and a touchdown. Garrett Smith led the way on defense with seven tackles. Max Miller had five tackles. Bradley Wallace finished with four tackles and a forced fumble. JT Fowler had three tack les. Strickland had two tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown. Cason Hillsman had a fumble recovery and Brayden Clark had an interception. Callicutt noted that his undefeated team has a lot left to play for. “ We had a lot of expectations riding on this season, and this is a pleasant surprise,” he said. “We are going to be competing in the region for the #1 seed going into the play offs if we handle our business in the coming weeks. Elbert, Stephens and Habersham all are good football programs and we will have our work cut out for us. I think we all look for ward to bringing the road to the championship through Red Raider Stadium.” Madison County is scheduled to host Elbert County Sept. 22. MCHS basketball program to hold golf tourney Sept. 25 The Madison County High School Red Raider bas ketball program will hold a golf tournament fundraiser Saturday. Sept. 25 at Highland Walk Golf Course. Sign in will be at 7:30 a.m. with the tee off at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $75 per person and will cover the entry fee, lunch, and mulligans. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of uniforms and equipment for the Madison County Red Raider bas ketball teams. The Madison County Red Raider basketball program greatly appreciates any contributions made in the form of hole sponsorships, donations, prizes, gifts and services for this event. “This event helps our program to provide the funds needed to support our student-athletes,” organizers said.
