SEPTEMBER 23. 2021 — PAGE 3A Crime Hull man arrested on firearms charges A Hull man was arrest ed last week after dispatch received a call about a “fight and a shooting” on Yarbrough Road. Eusebio Lopez De Paz, 39. was charged with dis charging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless conduct and unauthorized discharge of firearms within 50 yards of a public high way. Deputy Mason Bennett and another officer were dispatched to the area where they met with complainants who gave them the address of the shooting. Dispatch advised that the subjects were sitting in a red/burgundy car. Bennett found burgundy SUV in the driveway of the residence with a bunch of opened alcohol bottle nearby. They spoke with De Paz who smelled of alcohol when he came to the door. He stated that he was shoot ing into a tree with a 9mm handgun. Eusebio pointed to the tree he was shoot ing at which was proximity 10-to-20 feet from the road way. At the base of the tree were 24 9mm shell casings from the handgun. Bennett asked Eusebio what direc tion he was shooting at. He informed him that he was shooting from a location towards Hwy 72. He was arrested on scene and surrendered the firearm. In another arrest, Athens man was taken into custo dy last week following the report of a possible burglary on Martin Griffeth Road. Thomas Wilfawn, 42, was ultimately charged with loi tering and theft by taking. An officer was dispatched to the scene about a bur glary in which possibly three suspects were no lon ger on scene. While en route. Deputy Carolyn Gibson spotted a man walking along the road about 4:15 a.m. wearing black shorts and black shirt. He was holding a cellphone using it as a flash light. away from the nearby bur glary scene. Gibson stopped and iden tified the man as Wilfawn, who said he was walking because his motorcycle broke down and agreed to a search of his person Gibson located a pack of zip ties, wrenches, several different sized screw drivers and a single bronze key. He said he did not know the address of where he lived but that he lived with a friend on Martin Griffeth Road. He said the key was two his motorcycle tank and that the tools and other items were to fix his motorcycle. He was told he was being detained for now and Gibson proceeded to drive the half mile to the crime scene. Wilfawn told her that this was where he was stay ing with his friend. A further investigation resulted in his arrest on the listed charges. Other arrests on file at the sheriff’s office this week included: •Jason Brandon Bray, 48, Danielsville. parole hold. •Angela Nicole Bridges, 33, Danielsville. posses sion and use of drug-related objects and possession of methamphetamine. •Trevor Michael Curran, 21, Greenville, SC, fail ure to stop for stop sign, marijuana possession of less than an ounce, open container, turning posi tion; signals required, DUE alcohol, felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, possession and use of drug-related objects and speeding. •Jimmy Charles Ellis, 61, Hull, six counts of disorder ly conduct. •James Dwight Everhart, 36. Danielsville, litter ing highway, possession and use of drug-related objects and possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance. •Nelson Pierre Kelley, 24, Athens, battery family vio lence and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree. •Bradley Keith Loden, 52. Winder, four counts of a probation violation. •Taylor Ray Nicole McDaniel, 18, Nicholson, probation violation. •Jonathan Earl Teegarden. 56, Danielsville, battery family violence. •Miguel Angel-Vega Briones, 36, Athens, driving without a valid license. •James Isley Dowdy, 34, Hull, DUEdrugs, expired vehicle tag or decal, pos session of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime or attempt to commit certain crimes and purchase, possession, man ufacture, distribution or sale of marijuana. •Olga Margarit Hernandez-Castillo. 57. Hull, driving without a valid license and failure to yield when turning left. •Kerry Lee Hill, 46. Danielsville, failure to appear and possession of methamphetamine. •Remo Adolfo Loyal, Jr., 53, Jefferson, possession of a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. •Alejandro Mejiea- Hernandez. 39, Canton, driving without a valid license. •Cody Bryan Roberts, 23, Whigam, GA. aggravated assault. •Roger Dale Strickland, 48, Colbert, DUI/alcohol, failure to drive within a single lane, open container and turning position; sig nals required. •Amos Malin Tippens, 53, Hull, hold for Stephens County. •Rachel Lynn Vawter, 46, Porterdale, driving while license suspended or revoked, DUI/alcohol. fail ure to maintain lane and open container in vehicle. •Kenneth Wayne Wehunt, 49, Hull, Clarke County hold. Royston man charged with DUI after car found in middle of road A Royston man was arrested after he reportedly slumped over the steering wheel in the middle of the road on Jot-Em- Down Road at the intersec tion of Hudson Rivers Church Road. Travis Alexander Dicks, 28, Royston, DUEalcohol, two counts of illegal parking and the violation. Sgt. Jason Gaddy was sent to the scene after someone report ed the white Dodge Charger. Deputy Mason Bennett arrived first and attempted to wake the driver with no success and called EMS to assist. He also located a revolver in the floorboard at the driver’s feet. The driver was identified by an ID card in the car. The officers began to pull him out of the car and he woke up as they were doing so and assist ed them in getting him out. He was unsteady on his feet and his speech was very slurred. He also smelled of alcohol. He was arrested at the scene and his vehicle was towed. Other incidents on file at the sheriff’s office last week included: •A woman feeding her son’s dogs while he was out of town reported that she had been attacked by one of those dogs at a home on Brittany Pointe Drive. Animal control officer Misti Morrison responded to the dog bite call where she met with the mother who said her son had two dogs, an unaltered male pit bull and a white pit bull puppy. The older dog began to fight with the puppy and when she attempted to break it up she was said she was dragged by the older dog through the yard and then into the house. She was eventually able to put the animal into a dog pen outside and the puppy into a bedroom. She had bite puncture wounds on her right thumb, right thigh and right knee, along with a deep scratch on her left knee. EMS did arrive on scene and advised her to seek medical attention, but she refused transport. Both dogs were injured; the older dog had superficial wounds and the younger dog had puncture wounds and deeper wounds on its legs. The son and owner, who was reached by phone, said he adopted the older dog from a previous owner who was no longer able to keep him due to a “bite history" with humans and killing livestock. He also said he had been bitten by the dog a week earlier but had not reported it and could not confirm if the animal had its current rabies vaccine. He said he wanted to sur render the older dog to ani mal control to be euthanized. Its head was submitted to the health department for rabies testing.
